TB Clinical Support Worker (Fixed term/Secondment – 12 months covering maternity leave)
Join our established community TB service as a dynamic Clinical Support Worker. You will work alongside specialised TB nurses as part of a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver high‑quality TB care to patients, their contacts and the wider community.
Responsibilities
* Be trained in phlebotomy and participate in large incident TB screening and New Entrant screening to the UK.
* Support patients with treatment through directly observed therapy (DOT) and assist in locating and encouraging patients to engage with the TB service.
* Acquire knowledge of TB signs and symptoms and participate in local TB awareness activities.
* Arrange, monitor, report and record TB screening and treatment outcomes in accordance with service, trust and national standards, policies and procedures.
* Assist the community TB team with outbreak management in identified cohorts, liaising with case managers and other TB team members.
* Support TB nurse specialists in collecting prescriptions, liaising with pharmacies, informing patients when to collect medicines or delivering them.
* Recognise deviations from the standard TB medication/treatment programme and inform the TB case manager promptly.
* Provide ongoing support to patients to encourage adherence and completion of treatment, assist with DOTs and other adherence strategies.
* Observe patients taking medicines, record observations, and report concerns such as drug side‑effects or adherence issues.
* Work with patients to understand reasons for non‑compliance and help overcome barriers.
* Ensure accurate and up‑to‑date documentation in patient records and communicate concerns to TB nurse specialists.
* Visit non‑compliant patients at home or a frequented location following risk assessment with the case manager, encouraging compliance.
* Plan and organise own work, including home visits, clinics and DOTs.
* Act as the first point of contact for enquiries, liaising with clinical and non‑clinical staff and communicating effectively at all levels.
* Input information onto TB databases, ensuring all necessary patient data, demographics and screening results are collated and entered for quarterly statistics, activities and reports.
* Look up patient‑sensitive information and patient results for case managers to act upon and record actions on the local database.
* Participate in the development and implementation of service changes, including project work such as data collation, reporting and spreadsheet creation using Trust IT systems.
* Assist in the delivery of TB awareness campaigns and serve as a source of information about TB signs and symptoms.
* Provide administrative support for the Community TB nursing team, including ordering and restocking supplies, maintaining equipment and general office duties.
Qualifications & Skills
* Full UK driving licence and access to a car with business insurance.
* Immunisation and vaccination report from UK occupational health provider or GP.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills; organisational ability; enthusiasm; initiative.
* Experience working within a small team, prioritising workload and working independently.
* Confidence in working with patients with complex and challenging needs.
* Reasonable PC skills, including Microsoft Office packages (especially Excel), e‑mail, Outlook and database use.
* Basic knowledge of TB and its standard medication/treatment programme.
* Willingness to be trained in phlebotomy and TB screening procedures.
