An exciting opportunity has arisen within Solihull Integrated Addiction Service (SIAS) to recruit a Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP). SIAS is an NHS-led partnership of three agencies (BSMHFT, Aquarius, and Welcome) providing care for young people and adults experiencing problems with drugs, alcohol, or gambling in the Solihull area.
In conjunction with the Consultant Psychiatrist (Dr. Ed Day), junior doctors, and the existing NMP, the appointee will deliver a high-quality, evidence-based service aimed at reducing harm and promoting recovery. The NMP will manage a caseload of patients on opioid agonist treatment, oversee prescribing capacity for drug and alcohol detoxification, and contribute to the physical health service through relevant prescribing input. The role offers variety, opportunities to utilize advanced clinical and leadership skills, and avenues for professional development, including involvement in research projects.
Experience in prescribing within addiction services is advantageous, but training and support will be provided for those new to this area of practice.
Key Responsibilities
1. Conduct comprehensive assessments and reviews of service users with substance misuse disorders.
2. Initiate, continue, and monitor prescribing of medications such as opioid substitution therapy (OST), relapse prevention medications, and symptomatic treatments.
3. Ensure prescribing is evidence-based, aligned with national guidelines (NICE, Orange Book), and tailored to individual care plans.
4. Collaborate with consultants, nurses, psychologists, recovery workers, pharmacists, and social care partners.
5. Monitor physical health and facilitate access to wider healthcare pathways (e.g., blood-borne virus testing, liver health, primary care liaison).
6. Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, providing specialist pharmacological input.
7. Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records using Trust-approved systems.
8. Engage in audits, supervision, and continuous professional development in line with Trust standards.
9. Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and respond to risks promptly and responsibly.
