The Role

As a Lead SACT Nurse with us, you'll play a pivotal role in providing specialist nursing leadership and effective management of resources whilst ensuring a high standard of nursing care is delivered to all patients accessing the service. You will also ensure appropriate support is given to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis and through all stages of disease trajectory. What You'll Do

Your key responsibilities:


* Ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence based, nursing care for patients undergoing chemotherapy, assessing health, health related and nursing needs of patients, their families and other carers by identifying and initiating appropriate steps for effective care. This will include:
* Managing a patient caseload
* Close liaison with consultants and pharmacist
* Ordering diagnostic tests within agreed parameters
* Co-ordinating nurse led clinics
* Facilitate the professional development of staff within the Centre through effective communication and the sharing of best practice. Ensure staff meet all their training requirements and competencies ensuring all training requirements are completed.
* Produce and review relevant operational policies and protocols in line with clinical governance policies and in line with health and safety legislation to ensure compliance with CQC standards.
* Participate in any service reviews or benchmarking activities to drive service development forward.
* Rotate into the 24-hour on call team to provide out of hours support and triage to patients
* Ensure all staff receive an annual appraisal and opportunities to access further training and development through agreed objectives.
* Deliver immediate life support in order to facilitate rapid stabilisation and the appropriate ongoing management of patients who develop acute treatment complications
* Ensure good communication with peers, patients and those referring in to the service
* Ensure all care is given in accordance with agreed protocols
* Work in line with and contribute to local delivery of national care standards
* Comply with measures to actively manage and reduce risk to patients. Ensuring the formal reporting and recording of adverse incidents
* Maintain contemporaneous and accurate treatment records, submitting relevant statistics, reports and activity data as requested. Ensure that confidentiality of information is adhered to and NMC standards for ‘Record Keeping’ are met
* Ensure all patients are fully informed of the risks and benefits of proposed procedures/ treatments, contributing to the process of securing informed consent
* Provide all patients with relevant and accessible up to date written information regarding their treatment
* Promote and facilitate evidence based, practice and clinical audit within the chemotherapy service
* Maintain your own continuing personal and professional development in accordance with revalidation requirements, GenesisCare expectations and business objectives
* Adhere to the NMC code of professional conduct working within and accepting responsibility for maintaining agreed levels of competence
* Be aware of the close working relationship with partnership hospitals and third parties and the requirement to comply with their company local rules and policies all times
* Adhere to company standards in respect of appearance, behaviour and demeanour

What You'll Have

Experience and skills:

* Registered Nurse minimum 5 years’ experience
* Experience of working in a private patient setting
* An advanced practitioner either through formal qualification (as above) and/or extensive clinical experience within oncology and chemotherapy administration
* Experience in clinical leadership
* Experience in budgetary management
* Ability to impart complex information to patients, relatives and carers, with different levels of understanding
* Ability to build up a rapport with patients, staff and external providers
* Have proven experience of service development
* Experience of running research and audit programmes
* Experience of working with the private health sector

Qualifications And Knowledge

* Accredited chemotherapy course
* NMC Level 1 or Level 15 Registered Nurse
* Degree (Bsc) or equivalent in a health-related subject
* Relevant post-registration qualification in oncology/chemotherapy administration
* Ideally holding an ALS level with the Resuscitation Council or be willing to be trained to that level of competency
* Understanding of clinical governance and risk assessment
* Clear understanding of safeguarding procedures
