Principal Civil Engineer Location: Bristol Due to a strong forward workload, this is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer with 7 years of post-graduate experience to play a key role in the delivery of a wide range of infrastructure and development projects across the UK. You will be joining one of the UK’s leading independent engineering consultancies, working on diverse schemes in the commercial, residential, industrial, and mixed-use sectors. The successful candidate will be technically strong, commercially aware, and comfortable liaising with clients, local authorities, and other key stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Lead and contribute to the design and delivery of civil and infrastructure engineering projects, including roads, drainage, and external works. Prepare and manage technical project information—calculations, drawings, and specifications—in accordance with company standards. Demonstrate sound understanding of sectional agreements (e.g., S38, S278) and local authority adoption processes. Liaise confidently with clients, statutory bodies, contractors, and multidisciplinary design teams. Support business development activities, including preparation of proposals and fee estimates. Take responsibility for the technical, financial, and managerial aspects of assigned projects under the guidance of senior leadership. Ensure the accuracy, quality, and timely delivery of all project outputs. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering. 7 years’ post-graduate experience, ideally with consultancy exposure. Nearing or already holding Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status (ICE or equivalent). Strong understanding of civil engineering design principles and development infrastructure. Full, clean UK driving licence.
