An exciting opportunity has arisen following an internal promotion to join our high performing Financial Accounting team. We’re looking for an individual with excellent numeracy and organisation skills and an ability to work as a team.
Who we are
Newcastle is an ambitious City, it always has been. It’s an iconic City with a rich heritage but one that also shapes the future of the region.
Here at Newcastle City Council, we have a real passion to improve the lives of residents and visitors in the City through the wide variety of essential public services we deliver and the relationships we influence. From our City leaders to every member of our team, we’re all committed to making Newcastle a City that is vibrant and thriving.
We want you to help us make Newcastle a great place to work, visit, and live in.
Our values
Everyone who works within one of our valuable public services makes an important contribution to delivering our vision and priorities of the city. How we do things is as important as what we do. In everything we do, we strive to embed and live the Council's values:
* Proud
* Fair
* Ambitious
What the role will involve?
As evidenced by the recent CIPFA financial management review, we are a highly performing finance team that provides excellent support to managers across the organisation and a highly regarded Internal Audit service supporting not only the Council but a range of other organisations across the North East. Our work is varied and fast-paced, and you’ll be part of a busy but friendly team dedicated to achieving the best value for money for the Council.
Staff in Finance play a crucial role supporting elected Members and managers across the council to respond to the financial challenges we face and achieve vitally important service outcomes for residents and local businesses. We are doing this by streamlining our financial systems and processes to ensure they are as efficient as they can be so we can increasingly focus our efforts on providing expert advice and insight to help managers manage the financial resources they are responsible for.
Who are we looking for?
We need highly skilled and professionally trained people to ensure we stay on top of the challenges we face, and to make the most of the opportunities that are emerging.
We have an opportunity at Assistant Accountant level for a highly motivated individual. To be successful, you will need excellent financial and communication skills, as well as a demonstrable ability to work well both individually and as part of a team.
The full job person specification lists the essential skills and knowledge we are looking for in this role.
What can we offer you?
* A generous annual leave allowance
* The option to buy additional annual leave
* Access to family-friendly policies including maternity and adoption leave, maternity support leave, paternity leave, shared parental leave, and others
* An enhanced work-life balance including agile working, part-year working, compressed hours, and flexi-time where appropriate
* Access to salary sacrifice schemes, physiotherapy, counselling services, wellbeing programmes, and more
* Opportunities for learning and development, including e-learning, apprenticeships, and resource centres
* A rewarding and challenging career
* Retail discounts on high street and online retailers
Why work for us?
We strive to be an organisation where equality, diversity, and inclusion are part of who we are and how we work. We are committed to building an inclusive and supportive workplace where you can bring your whole self to work and succeed in your role.
Our people deliver services and projects that benefit our residents and develop the City’s infrastructure and public spaces. If you want to make a citywide difference, we want to hear from you.
