Part-time: 21 hours per week

Fixed term: until 31st May 2026

The Opportunity:

We are seeking an organised and dynamic Qualitative Research Assistant to support an interdisciplinary project that aims to examine and promote the use of lab handbooks as a tool to improve research culture across the Universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, and St Andrews.

This project, entitled “EQUaL4C - Enhancing QUality and Adoption of Lab handbooks by empowering local Champions to Catalyse Culture Change”, is funded by the Wellcome InFrame Research Culture Catalyst Fund.

The ideal candidate will be an organised and motivated researcher with a strong background in qualitative methods and a keen interest in research culture. They will bring experience in conducting and analysing case studies and focus groups and be confident in synthesising findings for diverse audiences. With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, they will thrive in an interdisciplinary environment, working collaboratively across institutions and disciplines. A proactive approach to planning and problem-solving, along with an enthusiasm for driving positive cultural change in research environments, will ensure success in this role.

This post is part-time (21 hours per week) and we are open to considering flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

The salary for this post is £34,610 to £39,906 per annum, pro rata.

Your skills and attributes for success:

1. Knowledge and experience of using qualitative research methods and analysing outputs, particularly of case studies.
2. Excellent written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
3. Awareness of research culture, and
4. Interdisciplinary Research environment
5. Experience of contributing to writing research outputs
