Job Overview
Southern Water is currently going through an exciting IT transformation which will strategically change the way it delivers IT support and services to its business and end users. To help support this strategic initiative, a new IT Application services unit is being introduced, which will become the delivery unit for Southern Water end users requiring IT support and services along with support delivering strategic and tactical projects.
The successful candidate will be expected to liaise with the Telemetry Specialist Lead, Telemetry Specialist Developer, Architecture, Service Delivery and Project Delivery counterparts, to ensure that the applications are supported & projects are delivered to the highest standards. This is a development role and training will be provided as a part of daily activities.

Responsibilities will include:
1. System health checks. Monitoring performance of the telemetry system overall, and resolving issues detected, either in-person or through liaison with senior telemetry specialist engineers.
2. End to End testing of new and existing configuration.
3. Telemetry database maintenance and configuration.
4. Reviewing end user requirements and configuring, testing and integrating as necessary in accordance with current business practices.
5. Ensure that project and business application support documentation is maintained and accurate.
6. A critical part of this job is to be flexible to support other members/clients of the team in meeting overall team objectives.
7. Facilitate productive relationships with, and between, key stakeholders.
8. Develop a full understanding of the whole telemetry system and how it integrates with other systems both internal and external to the company. Use of that knowledge to provide solutions to new requirements in accordance with business needs.
9. Analyse, test and document telemetry program components, configuration, code base and programs from supplied specifications in accordance with agreed standards.
10. Identify areas where standards do not exist and develop new guidelines as required.
After achieving competence, the role will also require:-
11. Provide 1st & 2nd line support (L2-3 as applicable) for business applications under role scope.
12. Out of hours first-line support to the Telemetry System hardware and software 24x7 standby rota: one week in 4.
About You
13. Problem solving. Must be adept at logically analysing issues and identifying their root causes.
14. Creativity. Must be able to conceive and develop solutions to business needs, in line with company practises and IT strategy.
15. Organisation and communication. Must be able to clearly and concisely arrange and present data.
16. Interpersonal skills. The position requires liaison with a wide range of clients and contractors from a wide range of occupational backgrounds.
17. Adaptability. The role requires continuous monitoring of the telemetry system with a view to identification of areas which can be improved and new best practices established. The telemetry architecture is constantly evolving in terms of processes and infrastructure used. The support engineer is expected to keep pace with a changing environment and recognise how to best exploit new opportunities.
18. Driving licence and access to a vehicle as some travel to sites will be required
19. Knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g. C#/Java/Python)
20. Qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology or relevant work experience to a similar level.
Package
This role will be full time Monday to Friday 37 hours a week plus on-call one week in 4 after settled into the role.
Southern Water operate a hybrid approach to working between our Falmer (Brighton) or Durrington (Worthing) office and home. This role will also require some travel to our Otterbourne site, so a driving licence is required.
