Overview
The University of Sheffield invites applications for a Research Associate to evaluate the hazards of Li-ion batteries used in performing arts theatres. The role focuses on experimental design, safety testing and producing data and media of battery hazards to inform industry-wide guidance for the safe development, use and storage of Li-ion batteries.
Responsibilities
* Lead the experimental design to evaluate hazards of different Li-ion battery chemistries under various abuse scenarios for specific theatre use cases.
* Perform safe abuse testing of Li-ion batteries used in theatre props to evaluate hazards under the designed scenarios.
* Provide essential support to the Brown Group to advance the university’s battery safety research portfolio and strengthen the research profile.
* Collaborate with the project partner and industry to have direct impact on health and safety in the sector.
Qualifications
* Practical laboratory experience with safe handling and testing of Li-ion batteries.
* Ability to design and execute experiments, interpret results and communicate findings.
* Ability to work in Dr Solomon Brown's group within the School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering.
* Excellent problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills.
