University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust are looking for 3 Pre‑registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians to join our pharmacy team at Furness General Hospital.
Post type: 2‑year fixed term.
This post attracts a trainee salary under Annex U/21 of Agenda for Change:
* Year 1 – 70 % of the top of a Band 4
* Year 2 – 75 % of the top of a Band 4
You must possess a minimum of 4 GCSEs (grade C and above) or equivalent qualifications in English, Mathematics and Science.
Main duties of the job
Together with full hospital training, you will study part‑time day release at Kendal College for a Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians. Upon successful completion you will be able to register as a qualified Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
This is a training post; the duties will reflect progress of the training programme and be undertaken under close instruction and supervision. You will work as a member of the Pharmacy team to provide safe, timely, appropriate and high‑quality pharmaceutical services for patients and staff. You will participate in providing medication for stock, in‑patients and discharge.
About us
We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal – as well as a number of community health‑care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe and the Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant‑led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non‑life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Person Specification
Education and qualifications
* English, Maths and Science to GCSE level (or equivalent) Grade C or above
* NVQ 2 in Pharmacy services or working toward
Experience
* Recent experience of working within a pharmacy department in hospital or community
* Experience in Hospital Pharmacy
Skills, ability and knowledge
* Good communication skills, written and oral
* Good IT skills and familiarity with Pharmacy computer system
* Flexibility and ability to work accurately under pressure
* Ability to cope with work, college and study
* Able to prioritise workload
* Knowledge of the JAC, Pharmacy computer system
Personal Qualities
* Reliable, honest, trustworthy and able to maintain confidentiality at all times
* Work well as part of a team or alone
* Well‑motivated, enthusiastic and conscientious
* Ability to work a designated shift pattern in line with the trust’s 7‑day working policy

Salary
£28,392 to £31,157 a year (Annex U/21 Year 1 70 % & Year 2 75 % of the top of a Band 4).
