Job Purpose: The Senior Test & Diagnostics Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the performance, reliability, and quality of electronic products within a manufacturing and production environment. You will lead the development, deployment, and optimisation of test systems, provide expert diagnostic support, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the test and verification function. This hands‑on role works closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to enhance testing capability, strengthen root‑cause analysis, and improve overall product yield. Main Responsibilities: Test System Development & Implementation Design, develop, and implement test systems for production, prototype, and NPI electronic assemblies. Translate customer and internal test specifications into robust test architecture and hardware/software solutions. Program, configure, and validate test systems, including automated test equipment (ATE). Maintain test equipment, ensuring calibration, accuracy, and compliance with internal and external standards. Diagnostics & Technical Support Execute functional, performance, and environmental tests in accordance with approved test documentation. Perform advanced diagnostics and fault-finding down to component level using schematics, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other electronic test instruments. Support board-level and system-level troubleshooting and rework activities. Provide expert guidance and mentorship to production technicians and engineers on the use of test rigs, instrumentation, and diagnostic methods. Liaise with engineering and production teams to resolve complex product issues and escalate concerns where appropriate. Continuous Improvement Lead CI initiatives within the test function to improve first‑time yield, reduce test cycle time, and strengthen process capability. Analyse test data to identify recurring issues, trends, and opportunities for improvement. Drive improvements in test documentation, workflows, diagnostics, and repair processes. Support root-cause analysis and corrective action activities (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa). Contribute to design-for-test (DfT) considerations during early product development. Documentation & Communication Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation, including test procedures, diagnostic instructions, and repair work instructions. Regularly communicate task and project status to engineering, production, and management stakeholders. Support product verification, release activities, and test readiness reviews. Person Specification Essential HND or Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering. Proven hands‑on experience in electronic test engineering, production engineering, or diagnostics. Strong understanding of electronic circuits, fault‑finding, and component‑level testing. Competent in the use of test and measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, etc.). Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment. Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem‑solving skills. Familiar with calibration, quality control processes, and technical documentation. Desirable Experience with automated test equipment (ATE) development. Programming experience (Python, C#, LabVIEW, or similar). Experience with PCB layout/design tools (Altium, KiCad, etc.). Background in aerospace, defence, industrial, or high‑reliability electronics. Experience with CI methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, SPC, DoE). Familiarity with design-for-test (DfT) principles.
