Position Overview
Thales Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) UK specializes in Electronic Warfare, Radar and Uncrewed Aerial Systems for the UK armed forces. We are looking for an ambitious Algorithm Engineer to design, implement and improve algorithms used in critical systems such as Radars and Digital Radar Electronic Support Measures (RESM).
Responsibilities
* Perform algorithm engineering for sensor and waveform signal processing
* Select and adapt algorithmic solutions
* Develop models of performance and physical phenomena
* Provide support to software, firmware implementation and system validation teams
* Undertake mathematical analysis of sensor data
* Generate requirements and acceptance criteria
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field with practical experience
* Proficiency in algorithm design
* Experience with high‑level mathematical languages such as Matlab, Python, or Simulink
* High level competency in mathematics including digital signal processing, stochastic processes and linear algebra
* Analytical skills to assess system/equipment needs, identify potential issues and produce specification documents
* Ability to work independently in a supportive team environment
* Strong problem‑solving skills in a complex domain
* Deep understanding of the electromagnetic spectrum and its digital capture and processing
* Initiative and willingness to challenge established processes and propose innovative alternatives
* Attention to detail and pride in producing accurate work
* Desirable but not essential: Experience working in Electronic Warfare or Radar domains
Security Clearance
This role requires the successful candidate to be a sole British National from birth and to achieve Security Clearance (SC) without any caveats. It is advantageous if already held; otherwise, the applicant must undergo, achieve and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment.
