Overview

This is a full-time Production Manager role at Y Lolfa, based in Talybont, Ceredigion. The job combines commercial and creative elements in a Welsh publishing and printing environment, responsible for managing and coordinating the company’s workflow, creating weekly schedules, and quoting for external work.


Responsibilities

* Manage and oversee the workflow to ensure smooth and effective production.
* Provide quotations for commercial printing customers and ensure jobs are completed on time.
* Ensure books published by Y Lolfa are printed correctly, promptly and to the expected standard.
* Check work passing through the company’s production departments.
* Occasionally order work from subcontractors.
* Order paper, ink and other materials for the printing and binding departments.
* Prepare job cards for every item passing through the press and create a worklist for weekly staff meetings.
* Ensure equipment is regularly maintained.
* Be ready to help in other departments when required.


Qualifications


Essential

* The ability to communicate clearly and work in an organized manner.
* Experience of using Microsoft Office programs (especially Excel) and Teams.
* The ability to work under pressure and solve problems.
* Good numeracy skills.


Desirable

* Experience of managing staff and processes.
* Experience of organizing work, including pricing, scheduling, prioritising and leading.
* Experience of working in commercial printing / manufacturing or related fields such as graphic design.
* Understanding of design programs such as Adobe InDesign, Acrobat and Photoshop.
* Interest in design, technology and production.
* Experience of handling and working with a variety of machines.


Welsh Language

Welsh is the administrative language of the company and most publications and printing work. The ability to converse in simple Welsh is essential, but applications from learners are welcome and training is provided to improve Welsh so a Welsh service can be offered on request.


Salary and Conditions

* Annual salary: £32,000 - £40,000 (dependent on experience and qualifications). Higher salary possible for an exceptional candidate.
* Full-time: 37¼ hours per week (5 days).
* Paid leave: 25 days + statutory bank holidays + one extra day over Christmas.
* Pension: Royal London scheme - employee 5%, employer 3-5% depending on service length.
* Start date: as soon as possible, no later than 1 February 2026.
* Relocation support: available for candidates outside the area.
* Training and necessary equipment/software provided.

Other Conditions

Normal hours: 7¼ per day, 5 days a week. 25 paid leave days plus bank holidays. Salaries paid monthly. A Work Agreement and Staff Handbook are provided. Probation: six months.
