Lead Pharmacy Technician Dispensaries
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Band 6 Lead Pharmacy Technician to manage the day‑to‑day running of the University Hospital Southampton Dispensary and the Royal South Hants Dispensary.
Job responsibilities
* Lead and support the Pharmacy Technician Team Manager – Dispensaries in the review and strategic development of the service.
* Manage daily operations, prioritise workload, optimise workflow and support all grades of staff to deliver services.
* Supervise a team of over 30 staff, including pharmacy technicians and assistants.
* Represent the pharmacy at service‑user meetings and interact with patients, doctors and other stakeholders.
* Coordinate on‑site and occasional off‑site travel as required.
* Participate in weekend, late‑night and bank‑holiday rosters. Core hours are Monday to Friday 08:30‑19:00 at Southampton General Hospital and 08:30‑17:00 at Royal South Hants.
Person specification – Qualifications, knowledge and experience
* NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent; GPhC registered technician.
* One of the following additional specialist pharmacy qualifications: recognised accuracy checking qualification/accreditation; Medicines management qualification; TAQA assessor or equivalent teaching/training qualification; CIPS level 4 Foundation management or equivalent experience.
* Extensive post‑qualification pharmacy knowledge or experience in one or more areas of pharmacy specialism.
* Experience of staff management, operational workload and workforce supervision.
* Recruitment, selection, mentoring, coaching and motivating others.
* Competent in the accurate supply of medicines (hospital or community).
* Commitment to relevant ongoing CPD and professional development.
* Experience of resolving customer/patient complaints.
* Knowledge of JAC or similar computer stock control system.
* Experience of service development, audit design and implementation.
* Relevant experience (e.g. logistics, ward‑based medicines management, clinical trials or research, aseptic services).
* Experience with ESR and E‑rostering systems.
