We’re recruiting for an Engineering Stores Assistant who will play a crucial role in supporting the efficient operation of Keolis Amey Metrolink’s inventory and stores processes. You’ll be responsible for receiving, storing and issuing goods, maintaining accurate stock records, and ensuring that materials are readily available to meet the operational needs of the business. No day will be the same, you’ll play an integral role, working in a fast-paced environment with third party suppliers, internal Engineering teams and other internal departments. The Engineering Stores Assistant contributes to a safe, organised and well-maintained storage environment, supporting overall productivity and service delivery, keeping our iconic Trams flowing on the network and our customers moving around Greater Manchester. This role is within an engineering stores environment. Key accountabilities will include: Incoming deliveriesCheck incoming goods for accuracy, quality and damage. Assist in the loading and unloading of deliveries either mechanically (forklift/pallet truck) or manually. Act as first point of contact for deliveries and external suppliers. Stock managementStore items in designated locations in an organised and accessible manner. Maintain accurate stock records using inventory management system. Conduct regular stock checks and report discrepancies. Assist with stocktakes and cycle counts. Monitor and report any issues with min/max stock levels to your manager. Maintaining the material requirements of the Engineering and Infrastructure departments Issue and dispatch GoodsPrepare and issue materials or products to internal departments following the booking out process. Be involved in the shipping of goods both UK and Overseas using correct documentation. Deliver items/stores local and afar using company transport. Maintain store cleanliness and safetyKeep the stores area clean, tidy and free from hazards. Follow health and safety procedures, including proper handling of materials. Engage and maintain a high level of general housekeeping in the ‘Stores Area`. Ensure own health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace, ensuring the zero harm principles and just culture is demonstrated in all ways of working. System and record keepingUpdate and maintain accurate inventory database on KAM’s computerised Warehouse Management System. Create records in the system to control stock count and maintain accurate records of stock movements. Support operational efficiencyCollaborate with procurement and other departments to ensure smooth operations. Suggest improvements to storage and inventory processes. Compliance and documentationEnsure compliance with relevant policies, regulations and standards. Maintain documentation for audits and quality control. What you’ll bring: A good level of numeracy and literacy, with the ability to carry out stock counts and complete accurate written documentation. Experience working in a supply or stores environment, ideally within an operational engineering, transport or maintenance setting. A strong understanding of risk and safety culture within a stores or operational workplace. Knowledge of material and supply requirements and a good understanding of supply chain management principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook, along with experience using inventory management systems and processes. A valid Full UK driving licence. Forklift Truck operation skills - full training will be provided. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with suppliers and internal teams. The ability to motivate colleagues and contribute to a positive, high-performing team environment. Experience in materials management within a fast-paced stores environment. A self-motivated, proactive approach with the confidence to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in deliveries and stock control. Excellent organisational skills to keep stock moving and rotating efficiently. A practical problem-solver who can adapt to changing situations to achieve the best results. Good time management skills to balance multiple tasks effectively.
