University of Staffordshire has embarked on an ambitious transformation in the Higher Education sector to become the UK's leading Digital University. We are looking for a talented Network Engineer to join our Network & Infrastructure Team. This technical role supports the design and delivery of wired and wireless network services across the University.
Responsibilities
* Configuring and installing Cisco network equipment, using industry standards and best practices.
* Supporting migrations to a Software Defined Networking architecture.
* Using Catalyst Centre platform to monitor all devices and services to ensure that they are working correctly.
* Port patching, audits and updating of central records.
* Providing second line support for Incidents, Service Requests and Problems that arrive from our service desk.
* Supporting projects and providing network support within Digital Services and wider university transformation projects.
* Providing advice and support across teams, escalating in a timely manner as required.
* Troubleshooting and resolution of wired and wireless performance issues, connectivity to the university\'s secure network, Cloud, and Internet services.
* Assisting with FMC and ISE administration.
Strategic Context
Supporting the Digital Transformation Strategy and the university\'s 2030 Strategic Plan, the Network Engineer will help with initiatives such as a new student accommodation village, enhancements to network security, and a robust hardware replacement programme. The role also supports a software defined networking infrastructure, intelligent buildings, and automation to deliver innovative solutions that reduce day-to-day administration tasks. Some knowledge in these areas is relevant to the Grade 5 Network Engineer role.
