Our client, a leading Civil Engineering and Infrastructure specialist, is seeking a Design Project Manager to join their team in London on a contract basis. Responsibilities for Design Project Manager: Lead and manage the pre-construction phase with the client to secure future sustainable design and build opportunities. Oversee multi-disciplinary consultant teams across several design packages. Identify and control project risks and opportunities. Apply commercial and technical change-control procedures. Manage compliance with all project deliverables and assurance/governance requirements. Develop, track, and deliver pre-construction budgets and programmes. Prepare and submit progress reports and dashboards with clear narrative for clients and stakeholders. Collaborate with internal and external technical, operational, maintenance, and strategic stakeholders. Coordinate site investigations and surveys. Ensure preparation and implementation of project plans, risk assessments, and method statements. Manage early construction planning activities, including procurement, consents, and design coordination. Oversee inputs from internal teams (e.g., HSEQ, customer functions). Handle consent and interface management, including work with client land agents. Take ownership of engineering solutions and design development. Produce design briefs and plans, evaluate design options, and lead design reviews. Ensure design delivery aligns with project goals and all client, statutory, and industry requirements. Promote safety, buildability, and environmental best practice throughout the design process. Required Experience for Design Project Manager: Experienced in design and pre-construction management for drainage and multi-utility packages on major civil engineering and infrastructure projects (up to £5m). Background in large-diameter water infrastructure and coordination of complex, multi-disciplinary designs. Strong capability in project compliance, assurance, and stakeholder collaboration. Proven leadership managing engineering teams of 24 people, covering project delivery and team development. Skilled in NEC3/NEC4 (Options A, B, C, and E) with strong commercial awareness. Experience working with delivery subcontractors or Tier 1 self-delivery contractors, ideally within design-and-build environments. Previous experience as a Site Agent or PM and involvement in design management functions. Knowledgeable in QA processes, pre-construction planning, and post-construction documentation. Proficient with OpenBuildings Designer and ProjectWise for design coordination. Holds a Civil Engineering degree (or equivalent), plus NEBOSH/SMSTS, CPCS Crane Supervisor, and Temporary Works Coordinator certifications. Strong understanding of contract conditions, CDM, design management, programme and risk management, and cost control/forecasting. Competent in Primavera P6 or similar planning tools Desirable: Professional qualification and membership with a relevant industry body or institution.
