Chelmsford / Essex – 1 day per week onsite – 4 remote
Cooper Lomaz is currently working with a growing department seeking a Payroll & People Advisor to influence both the customer and employee experience in a key area of employee engagement. This role is predominantly remote with one day a week onsite; candidates will be based within Essex or the local area.
The Payroll & People Advisor will provide a high-quality payroll and customer-focused transactional service. This involves handling a high volume of diverse transactions, working to strict deadlines, resolving payroll queries, and performing analytical processing within payroll disciplines. You will support and resolve issues efficiently at the first point of contact. Our client’s ethos is to provide advice, support, and guidance that are simple, clear, and effective, including communication, terminology, and processes.
Accountabilities
1. Ensure accurate data input for correct payments and deductions, complying with statutory and contractual requirements (e.g., pension contributions). Support and guide employees in using self-service where possible.
2. Resolve complex payroll queries within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
3. Manage payroll processes to generate payments to employees and third parties, including statutory reporting.
4. Maintain the integrity and security of personal, contractual, and financial information in compliance with legislation and policies.
5. Work collaboratively within a team to ensure high-standard processing and output quality.
6. Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries via various channels, meeting service standards.
7. Support service improvement initiatives and system testing to exceed customer expectations.
8. Achieve individual and team targets as defined annually within the performance management framework.
9. Possess a strong understanding of employment contracts, HMRC statutory absence legislation, and knowledge of tax, national insurance, and pension contributions. System knowledge for user acceptance testing is also required.
10. Maintain evidence of continuing professional development; working towards a CIPP qualification is preferred.
11. Ensure accurate data input for payments and deductions, in line with legal and contractual standards.
12. Experience with payroll systems to deliver high-quality service.
13. Good knowledge of payroll processes, including statutory payments, deductions, and pension schemes.
14. Collaborate with colleagues to promote best practices and policy advice.
15. Communicate effectively, demonstrating empathy, active listening, and questioning skills, with high standards of written communication.
16. Experience working in a customer-oriented environment, handling queries, and continuously improving service quality.
