Overview
National Gas is the backbone of Britain's energy system. We are responsible for securing the UK's energy whilst leading the way to a net‑zero future.
As the operator of Britain's national gas transmission network, we repair and maintain pipes, delivering gas to power stations, industries and 23 million homes. Our skilled teams keep the gas flowing, generating power and helping keep everyone connected. We are pioneering new solutions such as hydrogen transmission to help decarbonise energy.
As a graduate joining National Gas, you will work in an inspiring environment where your work directly contributes to keeping the nation’s energy secure today while building a more sustainable, net‑zero energy system for tomorrow.
About The Role
As an Investment Management Graduate you’ll join our Planning and Performance team. The team sits at the centre of the region’s investment decision‑making, working day‑to‑day with Delivery teams, Engineers, Asset Strategy, Finance, Regulation and Portfolio Management.
You’ll gain hands‑on exposure to how investment decisions are shaped, challenged and approved – from early planning through to delivery and performance tracking. You’ll be involved in building investment cases, analysing portfolios, supporting forecasts and reports, and working with stakeholders to turn complex network needs into clear, deliverable plans.
The team covers a breadth of work, so you can expect to use your skills across a range of planning and performance activities, including Portfolio Planning, Investment and Performance. Portfolio Planning involves organising and managing the work, projects and investments the business needs to deliver. Investment focuses on evaluating, shaping, justifying and managing a portfolio of capital projects. Performance uses data analytics to draw insights, analysing results, identifying trends and providing interpretation.
During the 18‑month programme, after your induction, you will complete three 6‑month placements covering various teams within the Planning and Performance team and an optional broadening placement.
