Depot Shunter – Heavy Maintenance
Location: Crewe
Contract Type: 12‑Month Fixed Term
Working Hours: 40.5 hours per week (08:30–17:00, Days)
About the Role
We’re looking for a Depot Shunter to support safe and efficient rail vehicle movements within our Heavy Maintenance depot. This is a varied role focused on delivering customer requirements, working safely, and ensuring smooth depot operations.
What You’ll Do
1. Control the movement of rail vehicles on and around the depot.
2. Carry out fuelling, toilet servicing, effluent emptying, and water tank filling.
3. Perform general shunting duties including coupling/uncoupling and operating hand points.
4. Operate traction units on site (training provided).
5. Operate depot protection systems.
6. Assist maintenance teams when required.
7. Maintain tooling, equipment, and good housekeeping.
8. Complete all required documentation accurately.
9. Attend technical, quality, and safety briefings.
10. Operate the fuel point, CET, and issue consumables using best practice.
What We’re Looking For
11. Good standard of education.
12. Understanding of rail vehicle maintenance activities (Essential).
13. Understanding of depot operations (Essential).
14. Understanding of HSE requirements (Desirable/Essential).
15. Ability to problem‑solve and communicate clearly.
16. Ability to work independently and follow set routines.
17. Basic IT skills.
