Operations Manager South

This role is Field based with regular travel across the south to support client project.

The Operations Manager is a pivotal role in managing the safe delivery of Solar PV installations. Managing internal and subcontract resources within specified budgets to the best in sector quality standards, strong leadership skills and project management skills are pivotal to the success of this role.

* During construction they will be the point of contact and communicate with the client, to ensure a positive customer experience.
* Adherence of stringent Health & Safety policies and procedures, direct and in-direct teams in accordance with legal obligations and company standards.
* Responsible for ensuring that all installation teams understand all the companies HSE policies, processes and procedures ensuring compliance is achieved and maintained.
* You will have strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
* Responsible for H&S compliance against KPI targets, with responsibility to maintain records and reports (weekly & monthly) to monitor and measure performance.
* Complete when required, thorough, accurate investigations into any near misses, accidents, or incidents in a timely and prompt manner as per the company standards.
* Ensure Working Time Directive is entered daily and up to date. Compiling & reviewing CPP (minimum 2 weeks before contract start on site date), initiating improvements as appropriate with H&S Dept Identifying dynamic risk assessment requirements as works progress.
* Ensure Toolbox talks are given to all teams in line with company standards. Ensure all site teams are inducted on every contract.
* Promote a positive Health and Safety culture to all stakeholders. Ensure the correct PPE is issued and always worn.
* Responsible for personal Safety, that of the team, colleagues, contractors, visitors and customers within the workplace.
* Undertake and record weekly audits on all live contracts. Prepare and attend all meetings arranged internally and externally.
* Complete and record a dilapidation report prior to any works commencing and agree with the client. Ensure that a safe, certified scaffold access and edge protection system is in place prior to any works starting on site.
* Monitor the performance and efficiency of resources allocated to a contract.
* Ensure adequate resources are allocated to complete contracts to the required Health and Safety, Quality, and time standards.
* Reconcile delivered materials, monitor wastage, and report and quality issues immediately to relevant suppliers.
* Prepare a prestart budget, and monitor expenditure, identifying any variances as soon as they become apparent.
* Reduce controllable costs, reducing unnecessary fuel usage, double handling, abortive works and any other unnecessary spend. Responsible for ensuring that all colleagues are properly trained to undertake any task that they are given. Mentor all colleagues within your team, ensure monthly 121 sessions are recorded with personal development plans agreed.
* Communicate progress and plan with the client daily. Ensure installation is in strict accordance with the design, with strings allocated to invertors correctly and recorded for inclusion in the handover file.
* Ensure any deviation to the design are recorded and agreed with the Design Manager prior to installation, and as built records maintained.
* On completion of a contract, undertake a handover meeting with the client and obtain sign off/acceptance. Agreeing any snags and a final condition survey prior to arranging the removal of scaffold. Circulate the signed report internally and externally.
* Monitor sub-contractor performance, undertaking regular monthly meetings and agree improvements where required.
* Sign off all sub-contractor payments, confirming progress and quality of work completed.
* Ensure effective use of IT systems, in line with the relevant Company policies and procedures.
* Management and effective cost control / cost reduction in line with the planned budget Monitor planned v actual performance on all jobs weekly.
* Identify potential bonus incentives for teams, propose and sign off with Operations Director. Identify any opportunities to “upsell”.
* Responsible for material reconciliation, planned v actual, monitor, and record all loss / gain.
* Responsible for monitoring and managing the logistics costs, using internal and external resource.
* Be aware of and understand the departmental and business targets; and the role that you play in their delivery.
* Ensuring service levels are maintained at the levels agreed with the customer(s) Developing & managing effective relationships with customers at all levels Ensuring that customers are kept fully informed about issues that affect operational performance and customer service. Ensuing that agreed customer service standards are maintained and improved where possible.
* To understand the products and services on offer to the customer To have internal product / department contacts as and when required Ensure that the customer requirements are met in a courteous, professional manner always.
* Managing and reviewing the contribution of colleagues who you manage directly.
* Managing, review and reward the contribution of colleagues who you manage directly, ensuring that processes are applied consistently to all colleagues.
* Hold monthly meetings with Team Leaders and wider team to update on general company information. Identify training needs and discuss with Operations Director. Manage varied HR issues i.e. recruitment, disciplinary, grievances, appeals, training, appraisals etc. in conjunction with HR department. The job holder recognises the role teamwork has in the Company’s success and contributes to this through displaying enthusiasm, co-operation and flexibility; treating others the way they would wish to be treated. Communicate and promote “Core Values” and business objectives within the team.
* Responsible for own personal development Motivate and develop the team, ensuring all team members have the required skills to do their jobs effectively whilst identifying & developing key individuals for future progression (succession planning) Complete annual appraisals with each direct report and including a half yearly review.
* Ensure effective communication with the team by holding monthly meetings / 1:1s. People management experience including colleague engagement. Good knowledge of Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint Experience of Health and Safety management SMSTS (5 Day), IOSH (1 Day) Knowledge of profit and loss, financials, and budgets Incident investigation. NVQ Level 3 or Equivalent (Desirable) CSCS Card
