The California Lottery is a multi-billion-dollar enterprise headquartered in Sacramento. It is one of the few state agencies that is a revenue generator, not accepting taxpayer dollars from the state’s general fund. Our mission is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. Ninety-five cents of every dollar spent by players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retailer compensation.
In fiscal year 2022-23, the California Lottery generated sales of approximately $9.2 billion with over $2.2 billion earned for California public schools. Lottery products are sold at more than 23,000 retail locations throughout the state. Product offerings include an average of 52 fun and entertaining Scratchers games and several draw games such as Powerball, Mega Millions, and SuperLotto Plus and daily games such as Fantasy 5 and Hot Spot.
Job Description and Duties:

The Business Planning & Research Unit at the California Lottery is seeking an organized, analytical, and creative leader to manage and mentor the high-performing Research team. The Research Data Supervisor 2 (Research Manager) is responsible for the planning, development, and communication of thoughtful evaluations and consumer insight studies that are key to business and marketing strategy decisions; all with the ultimate goal of maximizing sales and contributions to California public schools.

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. Employees must be able to report to their assigned headquarters office as assigned. Travel expense to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee. Eligibility for telework requires the employee to reside in California per California Government Code Section 14200 which states: “telecommuting means the partial or total substitution of computers or telecommunication technologies, or both, for the commute to work by employees residing in California.
New to State candidates are hired at the minimum salary of the classification.

Working Conditions
1. Schedule: The RDSup2 is expected to primarily work between the business hours of 7:30a-5:30p.
2. Travel: Periodic travel may be required dependent on research needs.
3. Other: Required to work a minimum of two days in the headquarters office (climate controlled high-rise office building under artificial lighting).
Desirable Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree, preferably with a specialization in statistics, economics, data analysis, quantitative research, or psychology.
* 5+ years of experience in consumer market research, specifically with the design and execution of both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
* 5+ years of experience in quantitative and statistical analysis on programs or initiatives.
* 3+ years of managerial/lead experience with the ability to lead an established team of high-functioning, technical staff. Strong team building skills to encourage a collaborative culture.
* Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability and experience in building successful relationships with internal and external stakeholders to establish collaborative partnerships.
* Expert knowledge and experience with workflow planning, timeline management, and work prioritization techniques and principles.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and conducting presentations before audiences of all levels and size. Ability to convey and explain complex problems and recommendations to a technical and non-technical audience.
* Ability to shift to changing priorities, critically and strategically think through problems and risks, and be detail oriented.
* Demonstrated experience evaluating processes and working with others to improve efficiencies and productivity.
