Mental Health Support Worker

We are looking for an experienced Support Worker to join an innovative specialist-supported accommodation service for young people with mental health and complex needs.

Position: Homeless Support Worker

Contract : Permanent

Hours: Full-time ( hours per week) working on a 7 day a week rota, including waking nights and Bank holidays

Salary: £27,636 Inc LW + pension and other benefits

About the Role

As a Mental Health Support Worker, your work will be underpinned by the Depaul Endeavour model of assets-based, psychologically informed delivery, the aim of which is to ensure that every client leaves a Depaul service with the skills and resilience to be confident and self-determining in their lives.

Working under the direction, guidance and support of your line manager you will be responsible for a small caseload of complex needs clients, as well as shared responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of all clients, volunteers and staff in the service.

You will ensure that the accommodation is properly maintained and support the client to sustain their tenancy and participate in a positive and successful move-on.


Key responsibilities include:

* Always ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients in the service, including using safeguarding and emergency alert procedures as applicable.
* Build positive relationships with all young people in the service to provide effective support
* Be responsible for a small caseload of clients for whom you will be the named key worker, and flexibly and creatively engage your clients, giving them personalized support
* Proactively develop and implement SMART outcomes-based support plans for your key clients.
* Lead on risk and needs assessment for your key clients and contribute to ongoing needs and risk assessment of other clients in the service.
* Deliver one-to-one and group support opportunities to increase positive coping strategies and resilience in the clients we work with.
* Proactively work in partnership with multiple agencies including statutory teams, mental health teams, and housing to support the well-being of Depaul clients following data protection and information sharing protocols.

About You

You will have experience in managing a service in a support setting with a focus on continuous improvement in working with young people with complex mental health needs.

You will need to have the following skills and experience:

* A relevant qualification, for example in psychology, counselling, social work, mental health, and/or significant experience of working with young people with complex needs.
* An understanding and commitment to working in an assets-based way.
* Experience in dealing with complex and difficult situations with people.
* Ability to maintain enthusiasm for a high level of contact with clients on a day-to-day basis and a non-judgmental approach to working with people with complex needs.
* Active Listening: Ability to listen attentively to the needs and concerns of clients and provide appropriate support and guidance.
* Empathy and Compassion: Ability to understand and connect with the challenges faced by youth experiencing homelessness and mental distress and provide emotional support.
* Personal and professional integrity and an understanding of professional boundaries and the ability to maintain boundaries.
* Experience in collaborating within teams and with external partners.
* Communication skills - excellent written and verbal communication skills.
