Advanced Specialist Pharmacist Trauma, Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery

Band 8a – 37.5 hours per week across a 7‑day rota with a maximum of one weekend in four. On‑call duty only if required by the department.
Salary: £55,690 to £62,682 per annum.
Contract: Full‑time secondment.
Responsibilities
* Lead the clinical pharmacy service to the Trauma, Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery Directorate.
* Work closely with clinicians, nursing staff and directorate management to provide high‑quality clinical, financial and risk management support.
* Supervise diploma students, junior staff and provide occasional clinical support to other specialties within the Network Services team.
* Contribute to the strategic development of the clinical pharmacy service for the division and support the Advanced Clinical Lead Pharmacist and Deputy Chief Pharmacist.
* Maintain and promote best practice in medicines safety and governance.
* Provide education, training and supervision of pharmacy staff.
Qualifications
* Essential
o Masters degree in Pharmacy (MPharm)
o Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
o Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma / MSc or equivalent qualification
o Independent Prescriber with appropriate annotation on the GPhC register or willingness to undertake designation
o Experience as a clinical pharmacist practitioner with broad clinical specialty exposure
o Computer literacy – proficient with Windows applications (Word, Excel, Teams) and internet usage
o Excellent oral and written communication skills with attention to detail
o Knowledge of current hospital pharmacy practice and future directions, medicines safety, risk management and governance agenda
o Commitment to continuous professional development (CPD)
o Willingness to travel between sites and attend relevant meetings outside the Trust
* Desirable
o Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)
o MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
o Formal management and/or leadership qualification
o Clinical pharmacy experience within Trauma, Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery
o Evidence of pharmacy practice research, audit or guideline development
o Experience in providing education, training and supervision of staff, including line management and formal appraisals
o Publication of research in a peer‑reviewed journal or presentation at a national conference
