Job Title: Environmental, Health and Safety Officer Department: Human Resources Responsible to: Health and Safety Manager UK Responsible for: Environmental Responsibilities Manage and lead ALL aspects of Environmental Management at Farne. Maintain and annually review our ISO 14001 Accreditation to ensure continued compliance and development with the ISO criteria Ensure environment compliance with regulatory requirements. Understanding and translating regulatory requirements into specific actions that need to be taken at Farne so that compliance is delivered within the agreed timelines. Set Environmental Objectives for both the Farne business and relevant functions and manage performance against these objectives. Work closely with the wider UK business providing technical expertise on environmental regulatory compliance policy / legislation. Ensure that Farne delivers on its objectives, obligations and adherence with all aspects of legislation / policy both locally and nationally. Manage operational compliance of all relevant operational activities that affect environmental legislation / policy. Ensure that current systems and procedures are designed and implemented at Farne to ensure the business complies with all relevant environmental policy and legislation Responsible for the maintaining and developing effective procedures, systems, processes and documentation required for effective management of the Environmental aspects of the Farne business. Monitor the compliance and usage to the implemented environmental systems and procedures we are doing what we have said we are doing Conduct internal audits tracking and directing follow-up activities to correct any non-conformity. Responsible for the provision of Environmental reporting / Gap Analysis on all aspects of environmental / legal policy. Advise on risk prevention opportunities. Provide technical expertise in investigation of problems and develop innovative solutions, implement corrective and preventive advice to action plans to address problems. Create agreed business and functional action plans to ensure that any identified Policy / Legislation gaps are dealt with within an agreed timescale. Support Corporate and Business Unit environmental strategy and objectives.Collaborating with the relevant agencies and exploring and supporting grant funding opportunities. Promote a culture of environmental excellence and provide high-quality environmental technical leadership to the Farne operation. Communicate effectively environmental issues / objectives / plans with all levels of management. Support business continuity and planning. Train, develop, and coach colleagues on environmental issues. Monitor and report on environmental operating costs for assigned areas. Manage communication to, management of and contact with all environmental agencies (locally and nationally). Ensure that all communication to, management of and contact with all environmental agencies is communicated to the LFF Board and Local Leadership Team. Seek (if required) legal advice / consultancy advice in dealing with and resolving all environmental issues. Manage and improve the companys links with both Government and NGO organisations. Health and Safety Responsibilities To support the UK Health & Safety Manager and Farne Salmon meet their responsibilities in respect of Health, Safety and Welfare in accordance with existing legislation. To be involved in the review process for existing policies, procedures and practices. To interpret implications and assist in policy/procedures formulation for all existing and future legislation, establishing measures which ensure Company compliance. Carry out periodic inspections in association with departmental staff as necessary, identify unsafe plant, unsafe or unhealthy working conditions and practices and initiate remedial action. Promote and encourage the engagement of all staff with the near miss reporting system. To record and maintain accident and near miss statistical information, and identify trends. Ensure that internal and external systems for the reporting and investigations of accidents, dangerous occurrences and hazards are maintained; submit reports giving advice and recommendations without undue delay. Ensure that appropriate signage, notices, posters and safety advice notes are properly placed and circulated. Support the development and review of risk assessments across all departments as required. To participate in joint consultation at appropriate levels between management and staff through safety committees, meetings etc. Contribute to the continued development of safety culture at Farne Salmon. You have a responsibility under the law to follow Food Hygiene Regulations and you will do this by following our hygiene rules which will ensure the safety and quality of our products. Excellent PC Skills and Systems Knowledge Intermediate Excel, Word and PowerPoint Intermediate MS Project SAP Experience Previous experience Environmental Management in a FMCG Business Knowledge and experience of Environmental issues and opportunities in a complex food production environment Candidate must be willing to be flexible with their working hours A strong understanding of the operating principles and technologies relevant to hazardous waste management, treatment of wastewater, noise, recycling and use of hazardous chemical at Farne. High level of communication and negotiation skills to effect behaviour change Knowledge of health and safety beyond personal responsibilities with a willingness to further learning in the subject matter.Full support and training will be given.
