Join the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit! Assystem is seeking a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our expanding Fusion and Modular Nuclear (FMN) business unit. You will work on cutting-edge projects, developing innovative technical solutions to make net-zero power generation a reality.
Your responsibilities include:
* Leading and supporting the development of designs for systems such as Personnel Airlocks, Main Equipment Access Hatches, Fuel Transfer Channels, Piping and Electrical Penetrations, and Nuclear Doors.
* Conducting DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to identify and mitigate potential failure modes early in the design process.
* Performing HAZID (Hazard Identification Study) to assess and document risks.
* Completing and maintaining Human Factors Checklists to ensure ergonomic and usability considerations.
* Updating and managing the project’s Risk Register to track and mitigate risks.
* Overseeing the creation of comprehensive Design Packages aligned with project specifications and standards.
* Managing interfaces between engineering teams, suppliers, and stakeholders for seamless integration of cooling water systems.
* Preparing detailed Technical Specifications for procurement, fabrication, and installation.
* Collaborating with cross-functional teams across engineering and project functions.

Qualifications:
* Leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
* Expertise in Steam Cycle Modelling and Cooling Water Equipment.
* Experience in project budgeting and lifecycle planning.
* Knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards (ONR, Environment Agency, HSE).
* Skills in requirements capture, systems engineering, and subcontractor management.
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status and SC security clearance eligibility.
