Project Description

Client is developing the control and protection software for the refurbishment project, a back-to-back HVDC system using Line Commutated Converter (LCC) technology. The control system is modelled and implemented in MATLAB/Simulink in accordance with established functional requirements and internal development standards. Delivery is executed using the Scrum framework, with JIRA supporting backlog management and GitHub used for configuration control.

Summary / Main Purpose

Client is a global leader in electrification, automation and grid solutions, with a long-standing heritage in delivering advanced HVDC systems for utilities worldwide. Within this environment, the LCC Software Trunk Scrum Master will play a key role in enabling the successful delivery of complex control and protection software within a technically demanding, multi-stakeholder project setting.

This is a senior Scrum Master role responsible for driving effective Agile delivery practices, coaching teams in Scrum excellence, and creating the conditions for consistent, high-quality execution. The successful candidate will act as a servant leader, remove impediments, strengthen team performance, and ensure alignment between sprint execution, delivery priorities, and wider project objectives.

The role requires strong facilitation capability, delivery discipline, and the confidence to engage across engineering, project management, and leadership stakeholders in support of predictable and continuous delivery.

Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

* Guide the team in defining clear sprint goals and maintaining focus on agreed delivery commitments.
* Ensure the backlog is refined, prioritised, and maintained in a ready state in line with the delivery plan.
* Drive effective refinement of future sprint scope to improve story readiness, execution quality, and delivery predictability.
* Identify, manage, and remove impediments affecting team progress, escalating wider risks, issues, and dependencies where appropriate.
* Partner with the Project Manager and relevant stakeholders to manage items beyond the team’s direct control and ensure alignment across interfaces.
* Support the resolution of inconsistency dashboard issues and other delivery governance matters impacting team effectiveness.
* Foster a high-performing team environment that encourages participation, accountability, collaboration, and mutual respect.
* Coach the team in self-organisation, cross-functional working, and the disciplined application of Scrum principles and Agile values.
* Ensure sprint increments are demonstrated effectively and that feedback is incorporated into ongoing planning and improvement.
* Facilitate meaningful retrospectives, driving actionable improvement plans and ensuring follow-through across subsequent sprints.
* Protect the team from unnecessary interruption during the sprint and help maintain focus on committed outcomes.
* Mediate conflicts constructively and promote open, effective communication within the team and across stakeholder groups.
* Provide ongoing guidance and coaching to strengthen Agile maturity and maintain alignment with current Scrum practices.
* Support coordination of goals, priorities, and dependencies across teams to enable integrated delivery.

Required Qualifications

* Proven experience as a Scrum Master supporting delivery in complex software, engineering, or technically regulated environments.
* Strong practical knowledge of Scrum theory, Agile principles, and servant leadership practices.
* Demonstrated experience facilitating Agile ceremonies and enabling high-performing delivery teams.
* Experience managing impediments, risks, dependencies, and stakeholder interactions within structured delivery environments.
* Proficiency with Agile and delivery tools such as JIRA; familiarity with GitHub or similar configuration management tools.
* Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical teams and project leadership.

Skills and Competencies

* Strong facilitation, coaching, and servant leadership capability.
* Ability to drive team effectiveness, accountability, and continuous improvement.
* Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
* Sound judgement and strong problem-solving capability in complex delivery environments.
* Ability to handle conflict constructively and maintain team cohesion.
* Clear, concise verbal and written communication.
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities with discipline and focus.

Experience Required

* Significant experience working as a Scrum Master within Agile software or engineering delivery teams.
* Experience supporting delivery in technically complex or systems-based development environments.
* Experience working across cross-functional teams and coordinating with project, engineering, and product stakeholders.
* Exposure to industrial control systems, power systems, HVDC, or MATLAB/Simulink-based development environments would be advantageous.
