Electrical Controls Engineer

Salary: Circa £60,000 (potentially higher for the right candidates)

The Role
This is a senior Electrical Controls Engineer position with responsibility for the full project lifecycle — from early concept and design through to FAT/SAT and commissioning.
You’ll take ownership of a long-term nuclear-related project (initially 18 months–2 years), working closely with an experienced, close-knit controls team. The role is not software-only; strong electrical design, hardware, and systems experience is essential, with software responsibility increasing over time.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver automated control systems from concept through to commissioning
Siemens PLC / HMI / SCADA programming (Siemens used almost exclusively)
Electrical design of control panels, MCCs and distribution systems
Production of FDS, SDS, FAT/SAT documentation and test procedures
Attendance at FAT/SAT and occasional UK site commissioning
Technical input into tenders, estimates and design specifications
Ensure compliance with relevant standards and safety requirements
Collaborate closely with mechanical, project and documentation engineers
What We’re Looking For
Strong experience as a Controls / Electrical Controls Engineer
Strong Siemens PLC background (TIA Portal)
Experience across both hardware and software delivery
Electrical design experience (AutoCAD)
Background in control panel and MCC design
Experience working within a turnkey project environment
Knowledge of safety-related control systems (IEC 62061 / ISO 13849)
Nuclear project experience highly desirable
Background progressing from electrical design into controls engineering
