Role Overview
As an Autism Assessor, you will play a critical role in conducting comprehensive autism diagnostic assessments, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and delivering person-centered care. You will utilize gold-standard diagnostic tools (e.g., ADOS-2, ADI-R, DISCO) to assess children, adolescents, and adults, ensuring compliance with NICE guidelines (CG128/CG142). This full-time / part-time, on-site role is based in our new Leeds clinic, offering the opportunity to contribute to a growing service while making a meaningful impact on clients' lives.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive autism assessments using standardized tools (e.g., ADOS-2, ADI-R, DISCO), including observation, developmental history interviews, and differential diagnosis.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members (e.g., clinical psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists) to ensure holistic evaluations.
* Prepare detailed, high-quality diagnostic reports, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with national standards.
* Develop individualized care plans and recommendations, providing post-diagnostic support guidance to clients and families.
* Liaise with GPs, mental health services, schools, and external agencies to facilitate integrated care pathways.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of autism research, NICE guidelines, and best practices to inform clinical practice.
* Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and service improvement initiatives to enhance assessment quality and client outcomes.
* Ensure safeguarding standards and manage clinical risks appropriately, adhering to ethical and professional guidelines.
* Contribute to audits, quality assurance, and key performance indicator (KPI) monitoring to support service excellence.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Professional Registration: Registered with a recognized body (e.g., HCPC, GMC, NMC) as a clinical psychologist, psychiatrist, mental health nurse, speech and language therapist, or occupational therapist.
* Specialized Training: Certification in autism diagnostic tools (e.g., ADOS-2, ADI-R, DISCO) or willingness to complete training within 6 months of employment (funded by employer).
* Experience: Minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience in mental health or neurodevelopmental settings (e.g., NHS CAMHS, adult autism services, or private clinics).
* Clinical Skills: Proven ability to conduct autism assessments, manage complex cases, and deliver person-centered care.
* Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills for engaging with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams, with sensitivity to diverse cultural backgrounds.
Desirable Skills and Experience
* Postgraduate qualification in autism studies, neurodevelopmental disorders, or advanced clinical practice (e.g., PGCert, MSc).
* Experience in assessing both children and adults with autism spectrum conditions.
* Familiarity with digital health platforms or telehealth assessments.
* Previous involvement in service development or clinical governance.
* Multilingual communication skills to support diverse communities in Leeds.
Working Conditions
* Location: On-site at our new Leeds clinic (central location with excellent transport links).
* Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (Monday–Friday, with occasional evening/weekend flexibility for client needs).
