Specialist Podiatrist

Band 6 Podiatrist two part role - 22.5 hours Community Podiatry working within highrisk / tissue viability within Durham and Chester-Le-Street Locality and 15 hours in-patient frailty within University Hospital North Durham.
Main duties of the job
Take a clinical specialist role across within:
* Wound Care / Tissue Viability
* Provide leadership within the Team and act as a senior clinician, leading by example.
* Provide specialist podiatry advice both within and externally to the Trust
* Assess and treat patients within the team caseload of patients with specialised care needs which includes adults and paediatrics, self-referrals from patients and referrals from other practitioners and disciplines
* Participate in the training of other staff and students
* Participate in service transformation activity with a view to continuous service improvement and value for money

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
* To be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of podiatric care for patients within a team caseload with specialised care needs
* To provide appropriate podiatric health education to patients and carers
* To act as a senior clinician providing specialist advice to and accepting referrals from both podiatrists within the department and clinicians in other fields
* To ensure that all interventions are designed using, where possible, evidence based practice and to evaluate outcomes
* To work across acute, community and primary health care sectors as part of a multidisciplinary team with direct input to patient care, often highly complex individual cases, and acting as a source of advice to medical colleagues, other health care professionals, patients and carers
* To be responsible for the maintenance of appropriate documentation for patient records, reports, audits and Departmental standard
* Leader in Clinical Practice: Lead by action and inspire others acting as role model, demonstrating the leadership behaviours and values identified by the Trust
* Support the Team, helping to ensure that high quality, evidence based podiatric care is delivered
* Demonstrate a flexible approach within their clinical practice, helping to meet demands placed upon the service and ensure that waiting time targets and maximum patient choice are delivered
* Undertakes reflective clinical practice monitoring personal standards of care and helps to undertake audits in support of the clinical governance framework
* Play an active part in the development of local policies and guidelines by commenting on policy changes within their own area
* Manager of Resources: Participate in service transformation activity with a view to continuous service improvement and value for money
* Ordering and receipting stock
* Professional Development: Participate in CPD through various means including; peer review, clinical supervision, appraisal etc., where appropriate disseminating information / learning throughout the Department.
* Maintain professional registration, following the HCPC Code of Professional Conduct
* Undertake clinical supervision and appraisal for junior staff
* Take an active part in student placements / training of students, acting as a mentor where appropriate
* To take an active role in internal staff training including:
* The delivery of training programmes within the specialist field
* Staff training rotations
* Multi-disciplinary training

Special Skills and Knowledge
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal, including persuasive and reassurance skills which are essential in the effective communication of complex and sensitive information to patients and in communication with other health care professionals.
* Good organisational skills
Qualifications
* Working independently and as part of a team providing Podiatry WC/Tissue viability to patients within County Durham and Darlington.
* Post graduate training
Experience
* At least 2 years post graduate experience with evidence of working within Diabetes/Tissue Viability
* MSK/Biomechanics knowledge
