Job Overview
Venn Groups Client are seeking a skilled and motivated Radar Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. The successful candidate will be involved in the design, development, modelling, and testing of radar systems with a particular focus on surveillance, tracking.
You will play a key role in developing innovative radar solutions and supporting their deployment across a range of real-world operational scenarios.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design, simulate, and evaluate radar system architectures and sub-systems
2. Develop signal processing algorithms for radar detection, tracking, classification, and clutter suppression
3. Model radar performance using tools such as MATLAB, Python, or proprietary simulation environments
4. Collaborate with RF engineers on antenna design and waveform generation
5. Contribute to system integration and field-testing activities, analysing radar returns and system behaviour
6. Conduct RCS modelling, propagation analysis (including multipath and terrain effects), and radar range equation calculations
7. Generate technical documentation including specifications, test plans, and validation reports
8. Ensure designs meet regulatory standards and work within the bounds of UK export control and defence compliance
9. Engage in R&D projects related to EW technologies.
Essential Skills & Experience
10. Degree (BSc/MSc/PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Radar Systems, or related field
11. Solid understanding of radar theory, Doppler processing, bi-static passive radar, FMCW/pulse radar, beamforming, and signal analysis
12. Hands-on experience with radar development tools MATLAB, Simulink, CST, HFSS)
13. Experience with RF front-end integration and radar hardware testing
14. Familiarity with SDR platforms USRP, BladeRF, LimeSDR) and real-time signal processing frameworks
Desirable (Nice-to-Have) Skills
15. Knowledge of AI/ML techniques applied to radar target recognition
16. Understanding of sensor fusion and multi-static radar techniques
17. Familiarity with export control regulations ITAR, UK SPIRE)
18. Practical experience in field trials and radar calibration
19. Awareness of ISO 9001 quality standards or similar frameworks
