Privacy Counsel
Wotton under Edge (Hybrid 3 days on site)

We are currently seeking a Privacy Counsel (or Privacy Officer) to support Renishaw’s ongoing compliance with its global privacy framework. In addition, the role will also provide wider support in areas including anti-bribery and corruption, competition and anti-fraud.
Responsibilities
As a subject-matter expert on privacy, and reporting directly to the Group Head of Legal Compliance (GHLC), activities will include:
1. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of global privacy laws and regulations (with a particular focus on the UK, EU, USA, and China) and related fields such as AI and cyber security.
2. Analyse proposed legislation, guidance, and best practice to develop and mature all aspects of the Group privacy compliance programme.
3. Provide advice to stakeholders of all levels across the Group on a wide range of complex issues (including direct marketing, cookies, and processing special categories of data), and other legal compliance topics as agreed with the GHLC.
4. Review privacy and security alerts in conjunction with the IT & Security team.
5. Manage responses to data incidents, maintain the data incident register, and manage notifications to supervisory authorities as applicable, in conjunction with the GHLC and Senior Legal Counsel.
6. Manage and deliver responses to requests to exercise data subject rights, in conjunction with HR and other teams where appropriate.
7. Conduct data protection impact assessments.
8. Maintain privacy policies, guidelines, procedures, and notices, and other legal compliance policies as requested by the GHLC
9. Conduct due diligence on third parties.
10. Provide guidance on personal data exports and conduct transfer impact assessments.
11. Maintain accurate and appropriate data processing records.
12. Conduct global privacy and other compliance audits, make recommendations for process improvements, establish robust remedial plans, and monitor completion of actions.
13. Liaise with the external Data Protection Officer and seek advice from external legal advisors as applicable.
14. Manage the internal and external facing privacy mailboxes.
15. Prepare and deliver awareness communications and training packages across the Group (including generic e-learning and bespoke face-to-face sessions).
16. Assist with risk assessments.
Key requirements
17. Significant knowledge and experience in Privacy and Data Protection.
18. Passion for privacy, IT (security) and all aspects of compliance
19. Strong attention to detail.
20. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to operate at all stakeholder levels.
21. Ability to convert research into practical, risk-based advice in a commercial environment.
22. Highly competent IT skills.
Desirable requirements
23. Relevant privacy and/or legal qualification
24. Experience of other aspects of compliance e.g. anti-bribery and corruption, competition law, investigations, whistleblowing, anti-fraud etc.
25. Experience within a manufacturing or engineering company
26. Experience of working with international privacy frameworks.
