Engineering Manager – Water & Wastewater | Manchester (Hybrid)

Our client is expanding their specialist design function and is looking for an Engineering Manager to oversee mechanical, civil, and process design, ensuring high-quality, integrated solutions across major UK water industry projects.
What You’ll Do
Lead and develop engineers, CAD technicians, and graduates across multiple projects
Act as Professional Head for the design function, guiding compliance with technical, professional, and water company standards
Approve design packages and ensure full integration across disciplines
Identify and implement safe, efficient, and value-engineered design solutions
Drive the adoption of software tools, BIM, and 3D modelling where appropriate
Manage production of design deliverables that satisfy safety, quality, and schedule requirements
Review, interpret, and brief standards, procedures, and updates to the team
Record and track project changes for design packages
Lead estimation of hours and resource planning for design packages
Who You Are
You’re a strategic, experienced engineering professional who thrives in a leadership role. You bring:
10+ years’ experience in engineering design within the regulated UK water industry
Graduate or HND qualification
Chartered Engineer status
Proven experience leading and mentoring multidisciplinary engineering teams
Strong IT and design software skills
Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills
⭐ Desirable
Understanding of MEICA, civil, and process design
Track record managing multidisciplinary design projects
Full driving licence and access to a vehicle

UMON 3 & 4 upgrades at sewage treatment works nationwide
Clean water main replacement schemes across the UK
Integrated mechanical, process, and civil designs for both infrastructure and non-infrastructure programmes
