Works Manager (Highways)
Location: Wakefield
Start: 3rd November 2025
End: May 2026
£300 - £320 per shift
I am recruiting for an experienced Freelance Works Manager to join a reputable sub-contractor, supporting the delivery of a major highways and infrastructure project in the Wakefield area. The works form part of a Roundabout upgrade, delivered under a larger, ongoing infrastructure improvements Framework.
The successful candidate will play a key role in managing on-site operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of the civil works package – including earthworks, drainage, kerbing, surfacing, and associated structures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
•Daily supervision and coordination of site operations for the roundabout works package.
•Manage labour, plant, and subcontractor activities to meet programme and quality targets.
•Ensure site compliance with HSEQ standards, RAMS, and permit systems.
•Liaise closely with Main Contractors site management, the client team, and stakeholders.
•Maintain accurate site records, reporting progress, resource usage, and issues.
•Support the delivery of temporary works, traffic management, and logistics planning.
REQUIREMENT:
•Proven background as a Works Manager, General Foreman on highways / civils projects.
•Experience managing road construction, drainage, and roundabout schemes.
•CSCS, SMSTS (or SSSTS) and First Aid required.
•Excellent understanding of safety, quality, and temporary works procedures.
•Strong communication and coordination skills across multi-disciplinary teams.
•Ability to work autonomously under a main contractor environment.
