An excellent short-term consultant opportunity within urgent and crisis mental health care, offering senior clinical leadership within a well-established Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team and the Haven Unit in Brighton & Hove.
Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Urgent Care Pathway on a 6-month fixed-term basis, supporting both the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team (CRHTT) and the Haven Unit. This role is ideal for a consultant looking for a focused, impactful post within a highly collaborative multidisciplinary crisis service.
About the role
This position provides senior medical leadership within Brighton & Hove’s urgent care pathway, delivering intensive, responsive crisis resolution and home treatment for adults aged 18 and over experiencing acute mental health difficulties. The role supports treatment in the least restrictive setting possible while maintaining clinical safety and effectiveness.
You will also provide senior medical input into the Haven Unit, a nurse-led assessment service offering rapid short-term support to individuals in crisis who do not require emergency medical treatment. The post offers a varied clinical caseload alongside strong MDT collaboration and opportunities to influence urgent care delivery across the locality.
Key responsibilities
* Senior clinical leadership across CRHTT and Haven services
* Assessment and management of complex cases and referrals
* Supervision and support of medical and MDT colleagues
* Care planning and evidence-based treatment formulation
* Mental Health Act implementation and tribunal input where required
* Partnership working with primary care, community services and acute pathways

About you
You will be a GMC-registered Consultant Psychiatrist with Specialist Registration (or within six months) and Approved Clinician status or willingness to obtain. You will bring strong clinical judgement, leadership capability and a collaborative, recovery-focused approach to urgent and crisis mental health care.
Location: Mill View Hospital, Brighton & Hove
Hours: Part Time – 7 PAs plus on-call commitment
Contract: Fixed Term – 6 Months
