We are looking to recruit a Band 7 Senior Research Nurse/ Team Leader to join the dynamic Peart Rose Research Team. The Peart Rose Research Team manages the delivery of a wide variety of studies within the Cardiovascular Directorate; co-coordinating research trials across three acute hospital sites (Hammersmith Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital). Much of the role will be conducted via the Peart Rose Research Unit within Hammersmith Hospital; however, flexibility with time and adaptability to work in different environments especially across three sites will be necessary to meet study requirements.
Your primary responsibility will be working as part of Peart Rose Research Team managing a portfolio of Cardiovascular research projects. The Team Leader should provide outstanding leadership and line management of their clinical research team in the delivery of high-quality research. You will be responsible for the day to day supervision of the research team of nurses and practitioners ensuring the successful delivery of these projects. You will work collaboratively with the clinical trials team and the wider multidisciplinary team in the management of research patients.
The team leader role requires sound knowledge of research and patient pathways within the cardiovascular speciality to support the team in growing and delivering the portfolio. The successful candidate will be high profile and visible, leading by example. They will be excellent at engaging with new clinicians/sub-specialty areas in research and will require excellent communication skills to nurture and maintain key relationships across the NHS trust, Imperial College, sponsors and the commercial organisations. You will be expected to show initiative and work with minimal supervision.
The role is essential to sustaining the team’s strong operational performance, particularly in meeting the national 150‑day target for study set‑up and first‑patient recruitment. The role includes ensuring that key milestones such as feasibility reviews, regulatory approvals, site initiation, and participant recruitment are tracked and progressed efficiently.
Continued training and education are essential within this role and we have a strong commitment to the growth and development of the individuals within the team.
This role requires the successful candidate to be patient facing, including taking consent and samples from patients.
Main duties of the job
1. To act as an expert resource to provide an in-depth knowledge on aspects pertinent to acquiring and maintaining informed consent.
2. To facilitate the informed consent process and contribute to the monitoring of consent procedures.
3. To ensure the processes and procedures for participant confidentiality are developed and adhered to.
4. To be responsible for the delivery team’s compliance of data ensuring study data is collated and transferred in a timely manner, and any data queries are learnt from and remedied promptly.
5. To ensure robust processes for accurate reporting of research activity, including uploads of activity to local databases, and ensuring consistency with external data sources (i.e. NIHR portfolio).
6. To lead on an internal audit programme for research studies to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and to maintain a high quality of delivering clinical research.
7. To manage the implementation of preventative and corrective action plans arising from research audits, and in the conduct of regular informal study spot checks to ensure regulatory standards are met.
8. To prepare and deliver reports as requested on study feasibility, recruitment to time and target and any necessary actions required to ensure a study is delivered successfully.
