Why LNER?
We go beyond. For everyone. Our vision is to be the most loved, progressive and responsible way to travel for generations to come. Now we're looking for the people who can deliver this, every day.
Since we took over on the East Coast mainline, we've been changing the face of rail travel. Our new Azuma train has brought faster journey times, more space and greater reliability. Our exciting plans to embrace new ideas, experiences, backgrounds and ambitions make this the ideal time to join.
Bringing passion. Being bold. Always caring. Owning it. They're the values that make us LNER.
Are you on board?
We're looking for a skilled IT Business Analyst to bridge the gap between business needs and IT solutions in a 12 month fixed term contract. In this role, you'll gather and analyse requirements from across the organisation, working closely with the IT Programme Manager and key stakeholders to ensure solutions are well-designed, aligned to business goals, and successfully delivered.
You'll support both project and BAU work, identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation through new technologies and ways of working. A strong technical understanding is key, as you'll help interpret solution designs, contribute to testing, and support smooth transitions from project delivery to live service.
You'll also be responsible for creating and maintaining high-quality documentation—translating business needs into clear, actionable specifications. This role plays a vital part in supporting ITIL-aligned service design, validation, and continuous improvement across LNER.
Within this role you'll also be involved in;
* Working closely with business stakeholders to identify improvement opportunities and ensure IT systems are fit for purpose, aligned with business goals, and used effectively.
* Gathering, document, and analyse business requirements, supporting all phases of project delivery—from conception to implementation—while ensuring outcomes are delivered on time, to budget, and to quality standards.
* Contributing to the design and enhancement of business IT systems, collaborating with architects and developers to ensure solutions are implemented effectively.
* Translating business needs into clear documentation, including business cases, process maps, requirements, and technical specifications; support the creation of user manuals and testing processes.
* Monitoring emerging technologies and assess their relevance to LNER's business functions, identifying opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.
* Supporting cross-functional collaboration with teams such as Digital and contribute to the development of project frameworks and methodologies.
* Maintaining relevant competencies, including contingency capabilities, to support consistent service delivery during disruption.
What you'llneed:
* Proven experience in a Business Analyst role, with strong skills in requirements gathering, running workshops, and producing both functional and non-functional documentation.
* Well-versed in the full project lifecycle, with the ability to work across project phases from discovery through to delivery.
* Technically confident, with an understanding of data flow and system design principles, and experience designing or testing infrastructure solutions.
* Knowledge of modern technologies, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Windows Server, VMware, Office 365, VoIP, and wireless networking (certifications are a plus).
* Highly proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio, plus experience with diagramming and data flow design tools.
* Analytical and detail-oriented, with strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teams.
* Degree-level education or equivalent professional experience, with a recognised Business Analysis certification (e.g. BCS/ISEB) or completion of a formal Business Analysis course is desirable.
What you'll get:
* Free travel on LNER + 75% off other companies' tickets (for you & dependents)
* Discounted international train tickets (after one year's service)
* 50% discount on LNER tickets for friends & family
* Generous pension scheme
