This highly visible position within the EU Medical Affairs Division is responsible for developing deep medical expertise across hematology assets and ensuring alignment with GSK's patient‑focused values. Reporting directly to the VP & Head of Oncology Medical Affairs EU, you will serve as a key member of the EU Oncology Medical Affairs Leadership Team, driving medical strategies that optimize patient outcomes and elevate the performance of the EU Hematology team.
Job Purpose: The Hematology Regional EU Medical Director will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the medical affairs strategy for current and future hematology products. The role emphasizes collaboration across internal and external stakeholders to ensure the highest quality of medical capabilities and expertise within the EU hematology medical team. In collaboration with the Hematology (asset) GMLs and as an active member of the GMT, you will be accountable for leading the EU LOC Hematology teams in delivering comprehensive medical strategies, ensuring optimal product launches, and enabling appropriate use of GSK medicines in hematology. This includes guiding the team in developing a deep understanding of the disease landscape, patient needs, payer/provider environments, and emerging data.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership in Medical Affairs
* Provide oversight and strategic guidance to EU Medical Leaders responsible for hematology medical plans, ensuring alignment with the Oncology Medical Affairs vision and GSK’s patient‑first approach.
* Drive the creation and implementation of focused External Engagement Plans, ensuring robust analysis of Medical Voice of the Customer (MVoC) insights through AIM and UNICORN KPIs.
* Design and execute high‑impact hematology medical strategies that align with the needs of patients, healthcare professionals, and payers.
Excellence in External Engagement
* Mentor medical leaders to develop exceptional skills in engaging with external experts, including during congresses and standalone meetings.
* Ensure the team excels in gathering and analyzing insights from external engagements and advice‑seeking activities to inform medical strategy and asset development.
* Champion scientific communications, streamlining messages in collaboration with the Capability Team, and supporting impactful publications.
* Advocate for digital solutions and innovative AI tools to enhance engagement and decision‑making processes.
Data Generation & Evidence Planning
* Work closely with Clinical Development teams and Global Medical Affairs to ensure clinical trial plans, evidence generation, and data analysis align with hematology asset strategies and unmet patient needs.
* Provide strategic direction for GSK‑supported, collaborative, and investigator‑sponsored studies in line with our SOPs.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
* Collaborate with Commercial, Access, Regulatory, and R&D teams at global, regional, and local levels to ensure alignment and integration of medical strategies in hematology.
* Offer technical accuracy, fair and balanced information, and compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations to shape commercial and marketing plans.
Compliance & Governance
* Ensure rigorous compliance with governance and risk management practices, embedding GSK’s values and regulatory policies into medical activities.
* Proactively identify and manage medical governance issues within hematology.
Leadership and Team Development
* Inspire and lead a high‑performing EU medical team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous development.
* Provide strategic guidance to senior leaders, ensuring the effective functioning of Medical Therapeutic Matrix teams and knowledge‑sharing across the medical organization.
* Champion a patient‑focused and value‑driven mindset, embedding GSK's values of courage, accountability, development, and teamwork within the hematology medical team.
* Mentor medical leaders in driving team excellence, inclusive leadership, and innovation, ensuring the team is equipped to deliver impactful results.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
* PhD qualification in a relevant scientific subject.
* Considerable experience in the pharmaceutical industry with specific expertise in oncology/hematology medical affairs.
* Proven track record of leadership in progressively senior roles, including direct and indirect team management. Previous Regional/Global experience is preferred.
* Demonstrated success in change management, capability building, and fostering team development.
* Strong understanding of drug development, regulatory processes, and evidence planning.
* Experience in external engagement, insights gathering, and scientific communications in the hematology space.
* Proven ability to develop and execute impactful medical strategies that drive patient outcomes and business value.
* Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, commercialization processes, and regulatory frameworks.
* Experience leading diverse teams, fostering collaboration, and building trust across functions and geographies.
* Ability to inspire and develop high‑performing teams while driving organizational innovation and transformation.
* Fluent written and spoken English.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Medical Doctor (Board Certification or equivalent credentials) or equivalent clinical and industry expertise in oncology/hematology; PharmD is strongly preferred.
* Expertise in organization building and team development.
* Extensive experience in oncology and/or hematology, either clinically or in the pharmaceutical industry.
* Proven ability to leverage digital and AI solutions to optimize workflows and medical strategy execution.
