DPS Department Manager
Permanent - Core Shift - 8 AM to 4 PM

What You’ll Be Doing
In a retail world that’s evolving rapidly, automation is a game changer. As the DPS Department Manager, you will lead a large team day‑to‑day, ensuring customer service remains a priority while maintaining consistent operational efficiency and performance across all your areas of remit. Your responsibilities include driving smarter, more efficient ways of working through automation, reducing waste, and creating a “can do” culture across the organisation.
You will manage the state‑of‑the‑art outbound automated pick‑by‑light and Boots.com pick‑pack‑dispatch operation, leading 18 direct reports across two shifts. Management will encompass both Boots and agency colleague performance, absence, and accuracy, while you own and lead multiple projects with a constant focus on continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead a team focused on maximising shelf availability and delivering the highest service level possible to stores, including accurate receiving, picking, and dispatching of stock
* Manage staff performance and achieve throughput targets in the functional area
* Control and manage budgets
* Ensure team members receive performance reviews
* Make short‑term tactical decisions in the operation to overcome any issue that may affect service to stores or product availability
* Coordinate with other Department Managers to ensure effective warehouse management
* Maintain handover procedures from the outgoing shift, prepare and deliver pre‑shift briefings, and coordinate activity to sustain a positive working relationship with the wider management team
* Implement short‑and‑medium‑term operational plans within the warehouse
* Lead Health & Safety and Shrink initiatives within the own team and operating area
* Create a positive culture through effective communication, recognition, and support, and ensure the partnership process is supported and visible to the team
What You’ll Need to Have

* Strong people leadership with high standards
* Experience managing and motivating a large operational team, including planning & organising, controlling costs, and managing a budget
* Experience working with and knowledge of Supply Chain, warehouse processes, and flows
* Effective cross‑functional working and strong communication skills that are effective at all levels
* Support Team Leaders in developing themselves and their teams, and managing performance issues that are fundamental to a successful operation
* The ability to interpret high‑level data, be forward‑thinking, drive and motivate teams to achieve results, and create a culture the team is proud of
It Would Be Great If You Also Have
* Good level of automation experience
* Proficiency in MS Office applications / Power BI, etc.
* Ability to create high‑performing teams and succession planning for the future
