What's involved with this role: Job Title: Senior Surveyor Reference: Durham 5283717 Salary: £19.81 per hour PAYE with accrued holiday and pension contribution Hours: 37 hours per week Monday-Friday Role length: 2 months opening assignment Job type: Hybrid Location: Durham Contract Type: Temporary The role: You will support the delivery of the Council’s Property Management service, ensuring effective use, occupation and performance of the estate. The work covers estate management, acquisitions, disposals, valuations, landlord and tenant matters and wider strategic property activity. You will handle a varied caseload, contribute to asset reviews and support corporate projects. Key Responsibilities: Manage a varied estate management caseload including acquisitions, disposals, valuations, rent reviews, lease renewals and related negotiations. Undertake asset valuations in line with RICS and CIPFA requirements. Provide full professional input on landlord and tenant matters, wayleaves, easements and rights. Identify opportunities for rationalisation, improved performance and disposal of under-performing assets. Maintain asset data records and ensure compliance with legislation, policy and best practice. Support strategic and operational projects with internal and external partners. Prepare reports, present information and attend committees, boards and project groups. Supervise and support colleagues where required, including contributing to professional development. Deputise for senior managers when needed. What the client is looking for: Degree in a property-related discipline (essential for Grade 11). Significant estate management experience across valuation, acquisitions, disposals, leasing, compensation and covenants. Strong knowledge of property legislation, valuation principles, landlord and tenant practice and asset management. Strong negotiation, analytical and problem-solving skills. Good IT capability, report writing and presentation skills. Ability to manage a heavy and varied workload with minimal supervision. Positive, self-motivated and flexible approach with strong stakeholder skills. Desirable: MRICS (required for Grade 12). RICS Registered Valuer. Experience managing projects, budgets and external consultants. Knowledge of local government and public sector asset management. Advanced qualifications or management training.
