AJ Chambers are currently working with a leading Top 10 accountancy practice in recruiting for a Senior Inhouse Tax Manager
This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced tax professional to step into a strategic inhouse position at one of the UK’s most respected accountancy firms. Offering a total package of up to £95,500, this role is ideal for someone with strong leadership credentials and deep VAT expertise, looking to play a key role in shaping the firm’s tax strategy.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Group Reporting, Treasury and Tax, you will lead and manage a high-performing inhouse tax team of six. The team is split across Corporate and Partnership Tax and VAT/PAYE, and your role will involve strategic oversight, senior stakeholder engagement, and hands-on technical review.
While the role spans a broad tax remit including corporate tax, partnerships, PAYE, transfer pricing, and tax risk, VAT will be the primary focus, making up approximately 60 to 70 percent of your responsibilities. You will lead all aspects of indirect tax compliance and planning, and play a key role in developing and executing the firm’s overall tax strategy.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and mentor a team of six tax professionals across direct and indirect tax functions
• Oversee VAT compliance, submissions, and planning (including partial exemption and CGS)
• Review and approve corporate and partnership tax filings
• Develop and refine the firm's group tax strategy, aligning with evolving legislation and business priorities
• Advise on tax implications of commercial activities and cross-border transactions
• Manage relationships with HMRC and external tax advisors
• Support M&A activity, corporate structuring, and partner remuneration modelling
• Contribute to strategic decision-making across the finance function and wider firm
About You
• CTA qualified (essential). ACA or ACCA also preferred
• Strong technical grounding in VAT, with demonstrable experience across multiple jurisdictions
• Confident leader with proven people management experience
• Commercially strategic mindset and the ability to influence senior stakeholders
• Comfortable navigating complex tax matters and legislation
• Previous inhouse experience or Big 4 background advantageous
