Overview
Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BHNFT) and The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRFT) are working together in partnership to develop an integrated Haematology service delivering Consultant-led care across the two sites, serving a joint population of approximately 500,000.
Two Consultant Haematologists are being appointed to join the team, initially on the Barnsley District General Hospital site. The service aims to move to a combined Inpatient model to operate a single-site Inpatient facility at the Rotherham site, serving a combined population of approximately 500,000. The partnership will enable resilience and the development of sub-speciality interests, including emerging therapies such as Bi-specifics.

Responsibilities
The post is 10 programmed activities (PAs) with opportunities for additional PAs to be negotiated.
The primary clinical responsibilities of the post-holder are:
* Provide a Consultant Haematology service for inpatient and outpatient services and ensure the proper functioning of the department.
* Maintain responsibility for laboratory quality assurance and compliance with hospital transfusion policies, and contribute to policy development where required.
* Full continuing clinical responsibility for patients under care, including provision of treatment relevant to their haematological condition while in hospital; provide advice to Consultants in other specialties and delegate/train junior medical staff as appropriate.
* Carry out research and clinical audit as part of normal duties; participate in training of medical staff and development of support staff.
* Maintain CPD activity with funded study leave to meet Royal College requirements.
* Line management and appraisal duties as applicable, with potential joint appraisal by Clinical Directors.
* Provide reciprocal Consultant cover for Barnsley Hospital in the absence of colleagues.
* Participate in the on-call rota (1 in 4) including laboratory supervision and clinical liaison for Haematology inpatient and outpatient services.
* Engage in clinical management of Haemato-Oncology patients at network MDT meetings.
* Undertake other duties appropriate for a Consultant Haematologist as needed.
* Opportunity to finalise the job plan and session allocation after appointment.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* Full GMC registration and licence to practise
* Eligible for Specialist Register (CCT expected within 6 months of interview) or evidence of CESR submission with expected Specialist Registration
* MBBS or equivalent qualification
* MRCP or FRCPath or equivalent
* Multidisciplinary team working, clinical competence in a defined range of medical practice, and ability to practice independently as a Consultant
Desirable
* Relevant research published in peer-reviewed journals
* Leadership and management skills; ability to identify and implement service improvements
Research and Audit
* Evidence of audit and implementation of changes arising from audit
Experience
* Experience in multidisciplinary team working
Clinical Skills
* Interpersonal and communication skills; ability to monitor, maintain and improve service delivery; good English language skills
Education and Teaching
* Willingness for teaching and training of junior staff; preparation for CPD requirements and education commitments as part of the role
