Job Description:
Mechanical Engineer - Staff or Outside IR35 Contract in the Nuclear sector. Salary + Benefits or Hourly Rate. Hybrid Working, 4-Day Working Week. Location: Lancashire. Duration: Up to 2 years.
Our leading client operates within the nuclear sector, seeking a Mechanical Engineer on a staff or outside IR35 contract basis. You will work in a design office and at a manufacturing facility on site, with opportunities to work on prestigious projects for a leading nuclear company. Experience in material or mechanical handling projects is preferred.
Your responsibilities include developing concept, scheme, and detailed designs, ensuring compliance and safety standards, producing technical documentation and drawings, and maintaining a nuclear safety culture.
Duties:
1. Undertake engineering activities within budget and schedule, identifying variances early.
2. Support the Principal Engineer in tracking engineering activities and forecasting completion.
3. Create 3D models and drawings for concept, scheme, and detailed designs, addressing operational, maintenance, manufacturing, construction, and installation requirements.
4. Apply conventional and nuclear safety principles in design development.
5. Produce risk assessments to identify hazards and implement risk reduction measures.
6. Develop scoping calculations to support initial design development prior to formal assessment.
7. Collaborate with Stress Engineers to define analysis requirements and load cases.
8. Ensure designs comply with engineering requirements, codes, and standards, including UKCA / CE marking where applicable.
9. Work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated engineering design.
Experience & Qualifications:
* HND or foundation degree in mechanical or relevant engineering discipline.
* Proficient knowledge of Machinery Directive, LOLER, PUWER, CDM, and related legislation.
* Experience in nuclear, materials handling, or similar environments preferred.
