PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £65,000 - £75,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
Purpose of the Role
The BBC’s Cloud Enablement team builds the tools and services that let over 1000 users build and run services on the cloud in a fast, secure, sustainable way. We own a range of critical services that manage the core of our cloud infrastructure and the things deployed to it, from application management and billing, to identity, compliance and security. These services have strong availability requirements, but also require us to look to the future and respond to new and evolving best practices in software development and the use of Cloud. Why join the team: you’ll join a growing Enablement organisation, building for teams across our Product, Media Supply Chain and Enterprise organisations - we are always looking for ways to help the BBC move faster and more efficiently. Our team makes an impact in a range of areas:
* Security - Running a platform that incorporates security in its foundations, and which guides teams towards best practices
* Development - Building a world class system to manage application development and deployment
* Cost - making investment, design and pricing decisions that save significant sums of money across the organisation
* Sustainability - Ensuring teams build efficiently, and working with suppliers to improve their performance and reporting
Your Key Responsibilities and Impact
* Define the strategy and roadmap for areas of the Cloud Enablement platform, making clear prioritisation decisions that balance the needs of users against cost and operational stability.
* Work with development teams using the platform to understand their needs, and balance the priorities of individual teams with those of the wider BBC.
* Define and measure success, focusing on how the platform accelerates innovation, improves security, and maintains operational performance and efficiency.
* Provide context and leadership so platform teams can make strong decisions and deliver the right solutions at pace.
* Build strong relationships with vendors to enable BBC to push for delivery on the things we need.
Your Skills and Experience
Essential Criteria:
* Experience as a technical leader in a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience building platforms for developers and engineering organisations, with a focus on improving user experience and driving consistent approaches across a company.
* Broad and deep knowledge of delivering technical services on public cloud.
* Proven ability to shape strategy and make prioritisation decisions for platform products, informed by product discovery and direct communication with internal users.
* Understanding of security, identity and compliance best practice in the Cloud.
Desirable:
* Understanding of security, identity and compliance best practice in the Cloud and where and how to drive improvement of both application and operational security at organisational scale.
* Knowledge of best practice for sustainability and cost optimisation on the cloud.
* Experience managing commercial relationships with third party software vendors.
* Experience partnering with multiple teams in a large organisation to deliver shared services.
