Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Science Technician with responsibility for supporting Biology practical work and wider science subjects. This role involves coordinating laboratory support for teaching staff, managing resources, maintaining equipment, and leading a team of technical staff to ensure practical lessons and experiments run efficiently and safely.
The ideal candidate will have strong practical and organisational skills, experience supervising technical staff, and a commitment to ensuring high standards in laboratory preparation and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and provide all materials, apparatus, and equipment needed for practical lessons, demonstrations, investigations, and practical assessments.
Assist with supervision of students during practical work and examinations.
Lead and support the technical team, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and resources are well managed.
Collaborate with teaching staff to design, construct, and develop laboratory equipment and teaching resources.
Maintain laboratories, equipment, and materials in safe, clean, and working condition; report faults as necessary.
Manage stock control, ordering, checking deliveries, and advising on expenditure requirements.
Repair laboratory apparatus and liaise with external providers when required.
Maintain accurate records of equipment, damage, repairs, and stock.
Ensure safe handling of chemicals and equipment, complying with COSHH and other relevant health and safety regulations.
Conduct routine safety checks and assist with annual safety audits.
Organise and safely store equipment and materials, including hazardous substances.
Support teaching staff in developing new practical exercises and improving existing ones.
General Responsibilities
