Job Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to become part of the Highways Team. The Highways Team within Streetscene requires a Drainage Engineer to join the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA). You will assist in the delivery of the LLFA statutory duties and functions under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 and the Flood Risk Regulations 2009.
Responsibilities
* Assist in the delivery of the LLFA statutory duties and functions under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 and the Flood Risk Regulations 2009.
* Provide a statutory consultee role, giving technical advice on surface water drainage to local planning authorities on developments in Hackney.
* Prepare and maintain the strategy for local flood risk management, coordinating views and activity with other Risk Management Authorities (RMA) and communities through consultation and engagement.
* Carry out works including funding applications to manage local flood risks; maintain the flood assets register; investigate significant local flooding incidents; prepare Section 19 reports; undertake SuDS design and supervision of construction works.
Qualifications & Skills
* Recent graduate with a degree in civil, environmental engineering or science, or relevant work experience in a similar role in a consultancy or a local authority environment (preferred but not essential).
* Confidence in dealing with the public and the ability to communicate complex technical matters clearly.
* Computer literate with experience of using spreadsheets and AutoCAD (training will be provided).
* Ability to coordinate with other departments, planners, developers and provide advice and guidance both inside and outside the organisation.
