Your new role
The principal function of this position is to lead and oversee electrical design activities within the team as directed by the Head of T&D and to assist in the development of the Group's capabilities in HV/EHV Engineering. The role involves taking a senior role in project work, focused on production, client liaison, mentoring, and coaching junior members. It includes meetings with clients, contractors, and other designers, requiring good communication skills and relevant experience. Site visits or visits to non-UK design offices will also be required. The role involves managing Work Package Design including reporting to meet the company’s design management requirements.
In this role, you will contribute to expanding our UK T&D sector, leveraging our global delivery model. You will be part of our Power Systems team, collaborating with experts in substation design, cable engineering, and overhead line design. You will support and develop the UK design team, contributing to its growth and success.
Your key responsibilities will be
* Lead electrical discipline for HV and EHV substations, including primary, secondary, overhead line, or cable design, complying with standards.
* Coordinate design from concept to detailed design based on client requirements.
* Manage multidisciplinary design activities.
* Collaborate with design team members and client engineers.
* Manage and mentor junior engineers and CAD professionals.
* Calculate loading and short-circuit values.
* Approve primary engineering designs and attend technical meetings with clients.
* Develop and train junior engineers.
About you
* HNC/HND/Degree in Electrical Engineering with UK industry experience, ideally NG authorized.
* Membership of IET, Chartered status, or working towards it.
* Experience with UK utilities like NG or DNO, understanding industry standards and policies.
* Strong knowledge in electrical equipment design, specification, and detailed engineering of HV/EHV substations.
* Understanding of electrical plant, transformers, protection, relays, and control principles.
* Experience in multidisciplinary design management.
* Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary, multi-location team and collaborate with clients.
