Job Overview

This part‑time role (30 hours per week) will support the Head of School Aged Immunisations in delivering the Commissioned BCG Programme and School Aged Immunisation Programmes to children and young people aged 0‑19 and their families. The post holder will manage a team of clinical and support staff, provide training, plan and deliver vaccine programmes and BCG services, and work closely with the Head of Service to analyse and improve service delivery.

Main Duties

  • Support the Head of School Aged Immunisations to manage the delivery of the BCG Programme and School Aged Immunisation Programmes.
  • Assist with day‑to‑day management of a group of staff, including clinical professionals and support staff.
  • Coordinate personnel and information management, ensuring continuity and effective use of resources.
  • Collaborate with the Head of School Aged Immunisations to align professional priorities with organisational priorities.
  • Assume operational management of the Immunisation Team, allocating workload and supervising the team.
  • Provide strong professional leadership and promote evidence‑based clinical practice.
  • Ensure effective performance management of the team.
  • Act as a role model, maintaining high standards of evidence‑based clinical practice.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and model clinical practice while supporting colleagues to reach their potential.
  • Support delivery of other school‑based immunisation programmes.
  • Contribute to the development and coordination of health promotion programmes for school‑aged children to improve uptake of immunisation.
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and delivering community BCG clinics.
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with the Gloucestershire NHS Foundation Trust respiratory team on complex BCG queries.
  • Maintain contemporaneous, factual records in line with Public Health Nursing Service guidelines and organisational policy.
  • Identify risk factors and signs of child abuse and act according to protocols.
  • Liaise with schools, the Child in Care Team and Social Care to ensure vulnerable children receive vaccinations.
  • Develop training packages and deliver to school‑aged children and PHN Teams (e.g. HPV training).
  • Provide signposting to other services and agencies, referring onwards with appropriate consent.
  • Act on referrals from other agencies and allocate work to the Immunisation Team.
  • Ensure that high standards of infection control are integral to nursing practice.

Qualifications

  • Professional, clinical knowledge through training to degree or equivalent; active registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) on Part 1 or 2 of the register.
  • ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing / FLAP in absence of a degree.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Post‑graduate qualification such as Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCHPHN), Health Visiting or School Nursing.

Experience

  • Post‑registration experience working with children or young people, families, or in community settings.
  • Experience safeguarding children or willingness to undertake appropriate training.

Knowledge

  • Active registration with the NMC (Part 1 or 2) and knowledge of NMC Professional Codes, Standards and PREP.
  • Understanding of Government policy on child health programmes and local needs.
  • Understanding of critical analysis of research and evidence‑based practice.
  • Demonstrated high standard of clinical expertise.
