Role
The client is seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Test / Quality Engineer to join their dynamic team within the commercial vehicle industry. This role is responsible for the thorough quality inspection, functional testing, and load testing of various lifting equipment installed on commercial vehicles. The successful candidate will ensure that all installations meet stringent safety standards, quality specifications, and operational requirements, contributing to customer satisfaction and product reliability.
Benefits and Terms
* Salary up to £39,000 per annum dependent on experience
* Working pattern: Monday to Thursday 8.00 AM – 4.30 PM and Friday 8.00 AM – 1.30 PM (37 hours/week)

Purpose of the role
The primary purpose of this role is to act as the final quality gate for newly installed or refurbished lifting equipment on commercial vehicles, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal specifications. The Test Engineer will provide feedback to internal departments to drive continuous improvement in installation processes, product design, and customer experience. This role upholds safety, quality, and performance commitments.
Main tasks and responsibilities
* Pre-Test Preparation: Set up lifting equipment for comprehensive testing; verify correct installation procedures against engineering drawings and work instructions; conduct pre-test visual inspections.
* Functional Testing: Perform detailed functional tests of hydraulics, electrics, controls, and safety interlocks; ensure operational sequences function as designed.
* Load Testing & Certification: Execute static and dynamic load tests per relevant standards and manufacturer specifications; record data and observations; prepare and issue test certificates and compliance documentation.
* Quality & Safety Compliance: Adhere to QHSE policies and industry regulations; identify and report hazards or non-conformances; support development of test protocols and safety procedures.
* Problem Identification & Feedback: Diagnose quality issues or performance deviations; provide clear feedback to installations team and engineers; contribute to product improvement initiatives.
* Process Improvement & Documentation: Maintain test records and documentation; support continuous improvement of test processes and procedures.
* Scheduling & Support: Maintain planned test schedule; provide technical guidance to internal test personnel; collaborate with QHSE on lift plans and risk assessments.
* Future R&D: Identify future testing needs and work with design/R&D teams to develop new capabilities; maintain ongoing training and development.
What our client is looking for in a Test / Quality Engineer
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or alternative higher qualifications or long-term proven experience in Hydraulics or Automotive Engineering) – ESSENTIAL
* Proven experience in testing, commissioning, or maintenance of hydraulic lifting equipment within the commercial vehicle or plant machinery sectors – ESSENTIAL
* Strong practical experience with complex hydraulic and electrical systems for lifting equipment – ESSENTIAL
* Technical report writing to a high standard – ESSENTIAL
* Project management skills with the ability to plan and deliver test programmes – ESSENTIAL
* Relevant lifting equipment operator licenses (e.g., Abrasive Wheels, Forklift, MEWP, Lorry Loader) – DESIRABLE
* Relevant industry certifications (e.g., LEEA, BFPA) – DESIRABLE
