The Supportability function has a unique position within our business as it is involved in all the stages of a programme, from initial development, production, customer support and repairs, and eventually disposal.

1. Influencing design by analyzing Safety and Environmental aspects and developing Safety requirements
2. Working across the full engineering lifecycle with a focus on developing Safety and Environmental Impact Management programmes
3. Equipment Failure Modes Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
4. Safety Hazard Identification and Safety Management, including Fault Tree Analysis
5. Knowledge of disciplines such as Reliability, Maintainability, and Testability
6. Experience with standards like MIL-STD-882; Def Stan 00-051, 00-055, 00-056, 00-970; MAA Regulatory Articles
7. Understanding of BS EN61010, BS EN6095; and RTCA DO-178, DO-254 is desirable
8. Problem-solving skills and the ability to manage conflicting inputs from multiple stakeholders
9. Creating beneficial relationships with cross-functional colleagues, customers, and suppliers
In this role, you will be involved in analyzing, assessing, and influencing the supportability characteristics, strategy, and performance of Leonardo's next-generation products across Radar and Advanced Targeting business areas.
As a Safety Engineer, your responsibilities include:
1. Engaging with Integrated Project Teams to deliver Supportability Engineering work packages related to Safety and Environmental Impact
2. Collaborating with multiple engineering disciplines to identify and prevent safety and environmental issues before production
3. Using your engineering skills to develop the supportability community and contribute to continual improvement of Leonardo’s Safety and Environmental Management System
4. Driving continuous product and process improvements to reduce safety risks, costs, and potential reputational damage
Understanding customer requirements to help develop safe equipment suited for current and future operational environments.

Ideally, you will have an engineering or science-based Honours degree and relevant industry, defence, or equivalent experience.
You should have effective communication skills, the ability to prepare structured reports with relevant data and evidence, and present safety analysis outcomes to project teams and customers.
Our team uses: Microsoft Office, PTC Windchill Quality Solutions, DOORS, Matlab/Simulink, Jira, Python, and a high level of expertise in these tools is highly desirable.
