Learning Support Assistant – Complex Needs Location: Ponteland Contract: Full-time Leader Education are currently recruiting Learning Support Assistant – Complex Needs to join a specialist school in Ponteland, supporting young people aged 11–16 years. This is an excellent opportunity for a caring, resilient, and values-driven individual who is passionate about promoting positive mental health and building strong, trusting relationships with pupils. Working Hours Monday – Friday: 8:30am – 3:30pm The Role As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils’ emotional, social, and behavioural needs within a specialist school setting. Your responsibilities will include: Supporting pupils aged 11–16 with social, emotional, and mental health needs Building positive, trusting relationships that help pupils feel safe, understood, and supported Providing one-to-one and small group interventions focused on emotional regulation, resilience, and wellbeing Supporting pupils to manage behaviour, emotions, and mental health challenges in a positive and proactive way Encouraging engagement, independence, and self-esteem Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, and external professionals Contributing to a calm, respectful, and inclusive learning environment aligned with the school’s core values The Ideal Candidate Will: Have experience supporting children or young people with mental health, SEMH, or additional needs (desirable but not essential) Be empathetic, patient, and emotionally resilient Demonstrate excellent communication and relationship-building skills Be committed to promoting respect, honesty, trust, compassion, and integrity Be confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team Hold a valid DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one What Leader Education Offers: A rewarding role supporting young people’s mental health and wellbeing Ongoing professional support and development opportunities Refer-a-friend bonus scheme – £100 per successful referral (terms apply) How to Apply: If you’re passionate about supporting young people and making a genuine difference, we’d love to hear from you.
